4, 000 new Congolese refugees cross to Uganda

The Office of Prime Minister working with Uganda Red Cross Society, UNHCR, security organs and Kisoro District authorities on Friday conducted a joint rapid assessment to assess the situation of new Congolese refugees camped at Bunagana.

On February 28, 2013, 4000 refugees crossed into Uganda through Bunagana border.

The Uganda Red Cross on Friday mobilized the refugees for an address from Kisoro Resident District Commissioner.

The RDC encouraged the refugees to relocate to Nyakabande Transit Camp. The Office of Prime Minister will provide security to the refugees at the border while UNHCR will provide transport to refugees willing to relocate to Nyakabande.

URCS has been tasked to ensure proper hygiene and sanitation within Bunagana border to prevent outbreak of diseases. In addition, URCS has also been tasked to prepare enough shelter for refugees that will accept to move to Nyakabande.
