Highlights

  • RAINS AND FLOODS: Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil have been affected by flooding. Some 7,000 people are affected in Ecuador, while in Peru more than 80,000 have been affected, of which 6,299 are homeless. In Brazil, 21 people have been reported dead, while in Bolivia 97,555 people are affected only the department of Chuquisaca.

  • FOREST FIRES: Some 3,112 hectares have been consumed by fire in Nicaragua. The situation is of concern since in 2015 forest fires affected 5,907 hectares.

  • ZIKA VIRUS: WHO announced that a relationship exists between births of children with microcephaly and Zika. The Organization urges countries to strengthen prevention measures.
