Situation
• FUNG - WONG (known as “MARIO” in the Philippines) made landfall in the northern tip of Cagayan province, northern Luzon, in the early hours of September, with Tropical Storm intensity .
Subsequently, it moved towards the Strait of Luzon.
• On 19 September,.UTC, FUNG - WONG was still a Tropical Storm, with maximum sustained wind speed ofkm/h, and its centre was located near the north - western land strip of Cagayan.
In the next 24h, it is forecast to move north - west over the Strait of Luzon and then turn north, towards Taiwan. Its intensity is expected to increase, remaining however a Tropical Storm.
• Over 19-20 September, moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast for Luzon, including the area of Manila, and flashfloods and landslides may occur, according to PAGASA . A Public Storm Warning Signal (PSWS) #is in effect for the provinces of Batanes, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte and Apayo.
• The heavy rainfall that affected central and northern Philippines during the past few days, due to the passage of Tropical Cyclones and the Southwest Monsoon, has caused floods and landslides.
WMO reports 268 mm of rain in 24h in Manila, on 18 September.
• As of 19 September, the NDRRMC reports death and over 430 000 people affected in parts of Central Luzon, the National Capital Region, Mindoro Occidental ( Mimaropa ) and Cebu (Central Visayas ) .
