TC MUJIGAE, known in the Philippines as KABAYAN, formed over the Philippine Sea late on 30 September and started moving towards central Luzon, strengthening into a Tropical Storm. It reached the coasts of Aurora province late in the afternoon (UTC) of 1 October, as a Tropical Storm.

• After the landfall it continued moving northwest over central Luzon, slightly weakening, and it emerged into the South China Sea early on 2 October.

• Heavy rains and strong winds affected several areas of Luzon on 1-2 October. Media reported floods, landslides and power cuts in the provinces of Aurora, Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan. As of 2 October morning, there were no reports of casualties.

• Over the next 48 h it is forecast to move over the South China Sea, towards southern China and northern Vietnam. It may reach Hainan and Guangdong provinces (China) in the morning (UTC) of 4 October, as a Typhoon with max. sustained winds of 120 km/h.

Strong winds, heavy rains and storm surge may affect Hainan, Guangdong and Guangxi provinces (China), as well as northeastern Vietnam on 4-5 October. JRC calculations indicate a storm surge of the order of 1.8 m near Zhanjiang (southwestern Guangdong) on 4 October morning.

• In southern China, as of 2 October morning, a Blue Warning for Typhoon was in effect (China Meteorological Administration).
