Description: 27/6/2013 - Did you know that a new hurricane season started on 1 June? For 2013, 18 meteorological phenomena have been predicted, of which 10 could become hurricanes and the rest could be tropical storms. In 2012, Tropical Storm Isaac caused severe damage in Dominican Republic, especially to homes, water and sanitation systems and agriculture.
ECHO was there with its humanitarian partners to help those affected by Isaac. The humanitarian response included the distribution of short-cycle seeds, in order to restore the production capacity as soon as possible, ensuring food security, and the rehabilitation of basic infrastructure damage by tropical storm. In this video in Spanish, produced by our partner Oxfam, you can hear the beneficiaries first-hand account of the damages they suffered and how they participated in the response.

While basic humanitarian aid was delivered rapidly, finding shelter for the survivors proved more difficult. By March 2010, some 25,000 people were still being housed in evacuation centers. ECHO therefore provided a further €4 million in June 2010 for additional shelter.
