Video games that protect civilians
Description: Like many other soldiers around the world, these Ukrainian army officers are learning the laws of war by planning simulated operations on a virtual battlefield. The ICRC uses this method in a number of countries. As Michael Pymble, an ICRC armed forces delegate, explains: "When we can show them what the terrain looks like in 3D – where things are, where the military objectives are in relation to civilian objects, where people are – and they’re able to see that in 3D, it just makes it far more accessible for them, and the results are much better in the planning exercises that we give them.” AV443C_long-version

Meet 91-year-old Maria in Ukraine
Description: 1 October is the International Day of Older Persons. In times of conflict, older people are at heightened risk of being forgotten, abandoned and neglected. In Ukraine, many elderly people have been forced to flee their homes since fighting broke out in 2014. UNHCR and partners have helped rebuild the homes of displaced Ukrainians like 91-year-old Maria, whose house was destroyed by heavy shelling, to allow them to return home. With your help, we can continue to provide assistance to vulnerable displaced older people around the world, to make sure they can live in safety and dignity. Ukraine: When a bomb shelter becomes a part of daily life | UNICEF
Description: Meet 17-year-old Dasha, who lives in eastern Ukraine. Over three years of conflict has left her life in limbo but she is determined not to give up on her future. More than 200,000 children affected by the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine require urgent and sustained psychosocial support to address the trauma of living through more than three years of violence. Children should not have to live with the emotional scars from a conflict they had no part in creating. Last year, we reached children with psychosocial support through community protection centres, mobile teams and school-based social workers and psychologists, but the need for longer-term care is outpacing available resources.Learn more: http://uni.cf/2nQTOem Subscribe to UNICEF here: http://bit.ly/1ltTE3m The official UNICEF YouTube channel is your primary destination for the latest news updates from the frontline, documentaries, celebrity appeals, and more about our work to realize the rights of every child. Some patients also suffer from depression. The most commonly seen medical conditions MSF sees are cardio-vascular diseases and diabetes. Ukraine: High Commissioner visits border and people with disabilities
