GAZA, Jan 22 (Reuters) - The head of the U.N. agency that helps Palestinian refugees said on Monday that U.S. plans to cut funding to the body were abrupt and harmful and risked destabilising the Middle East.

Reports also suggest that 63 people were injured. He calls on the Congolese authorities to conduct credible investigations into these incidents and to hold those responsible accountable.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC)advised the affected communities to be vigilant on the health hazards of volcanic ash to human health as alert level 4 was raised over Mayon Volcano in Legazpi, Albay.

According to PRC Health Services, exposure to falling ash may cause a number of health problems especially respiratory illnesses such as nose and throat irritation, coughing, bronchitis-like illness, and discomfort while breathing. Eye irritation and minor skin problems are also among the bad effects of exposure to volcanic ash.

BEIJING, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- China's meteorological authority Monday issued a blue alert, the lowest level in a four-tier warning system, for a cold front in some central and western regions.

From Monday to Friday, the temperature is expected to drop by 6 to 10 degrees Celsius in most parts of central and northwestern China, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said.

Parts of Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Hubei, and Hunan will see temperatures drop by up to 10 degrees accompanied by heavy winds, said the NMC.

On 13 January 2018 at 4:21 PM, Mayon Volcano generated a phreatic eruption (steam-driven) that propelled a grayish steam and ash plume approximately 2500 m high that was drifted to the southwest. Based on seismic records the activity lasted approximately 1 hour and 47 minutes.

Alert status was raised to level 4 (hazardous eruption imminent) on January 22 at 1:00 PM by DOST-PHIVOLCS due to the phreatomagmatic eruption (increased seismic unrest, lava fountaining and summit explosion).
