Background

The Water Price Monitoring assessment aims to establish a data collection, monitoring and reporting system on water market prices in order to allow humanitarian and development actors to better analyse humanitarian needs in areas particularly affected by drought.

August data collection in Bay was conducted through a quantitative survey between 29 - 30 August, focusing only on those waterpoints in the region that are charging for water. The assessment has followed the official district boundaries of the region.

(New York, 19 September 2017): The Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Edward Kallon, strongly condemns the deadly attacks targeting innocent civilians in Konduga, Banki and Ngala areas of Borno State in conflict-struck north-east Nigeria.

Four attacks in recent weeks, three of which were carried out by suicide bombers, have claimed the lives of over 45 civilians and injured countless others, and are indicative of a surge in the brutal violence triggered by a regionalized conflict that is now in its eighth year.

Christian Aid has launched an appeal to help all communities displaced by violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, and Rohingya Muslims who have crossed the country’s border into Bangladesh as refugees.

Figures show 412,000 Rohingya people have fled into Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar district since a fresh outbreak of violence erupted in Rakhine State on 25 August. A reported 210 villages have been destroyed in the north of the state, leading to an unknown number of displaced people within Myanmar.

María es el primer huracán de categoría 5 que azota la isla que recibió más de 150 milímetros de lluvia.

El Primer Ministro de Dominica reveló en un comunicado publicado en sus redes sociales que los primeros informes indican una devastación generalizada, pero hasta el momento no hay indicios de pérdidas humanas.

Mauritania hosts over 2,000 urban refugees and asylum seekers and almost 52,000 Malian refugees in Mbera, a camp established in 2012, in the arid south-east region close to the Malian border.

Despite the conclusion of a peace agreement in 2015, largescale returns of Malian refugees are not expected due to persistent violence in northern Mali.

The protracted displacement situation in Mbera exercises a considerable pressure on already limited local resources in the Bassikounou region.

Over a week after Hurricane Irma’s ferocious winds and storm surge ravaged Cuba, people in the hardest-hit areas of the Caribbean island are still struggling to meet their basic needs.

Thanks to $320,000 from the Canadian Humanitarian Assistance Fund (CHAF), Oxfam Canada will help approximately 4,500 people in the province of Camagüey with immediate necessities. The storm damaged or destroyed more than 90 percent of the homes in the municipality of Esmerelda on the northern part of the island.
