La population totale de réfugiés et demandeurs d’asile est passée de 403.764 en Juillet 2017 à 405.844 personnes en Aout 2017. Ceci représente une augmentation globale de 2.080 personnes composées principalement de nouveaux nés (1.162) et nouveaux arrivants (533).
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, Ms. Virginia Gamba, congratulates the government of the Central African Republic for the ratification today of the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict.
The signing ceremony took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, where the 72nd UN General Assembly is currently ongoing.
Military operations to retake Hawiga and east Shirqat from under control of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) began on 21 September. Security forces retook several villages in quick succession, displacing remaining residents. It is not yet clear whether operations will be limited to the east Shirqat area only, or if it will continue into Hawiga district.
Expected humanitarian impact:
Since August 25th, there has been a steady escalation of violence against the Rohingya minority in Rakhine state, Myanmar. More than 415,000 people have been forced to flee to neighboring Bangladesh and are now seeking refuge in the Cox's Bazar region. Many refugees have settled in makeshift camps, with limited supplies of food or water, and almost no access to medical care. Almost 80% of the refugees are women (including pregnant women) and children.

Today, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Mark Green announced nearly $264 million in additional humanitarian assistance for the people of Iraq. The United States Government has now provided nearly $1.7 billion in humanitarian assistance for the Iraq crisis since Fiscal Year 2014.

21 September 2017, Juba — The Kingdom of the Netherlands and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed a new agreement on Thursday extending support to strengthening the rule of law and expanding access to justice for the people of South Sudan through 2020.
The new funding totals US$10.2 million until March 2020.

Kutupalong, Bangladesh – A massive scale-up of humanitarian aid in Bangladesh is needed to avoid a huge public health disaster following the arrival of hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees. Following a wave of targeted violence against Rohingya more than 422,000 people have fled to Bangladesh from Rakhine State in Myanmar within a three week period. The most recent influx of Rohingya refugees has added to the hundreds of thousands of Rohingya who fled across the border during episodes of violence in previous years.
