I transmit to you herewith the statement regarding the report of the Secretary-General on the implementation of Security Council resolutions 2139 (2014), 2165 (2014), 2191 (2014), 2258 (2015), 2332 (2016), 2393 (2017) and 2401 (2018) (S/2018/707), which concern the humanitarian situation in the Syrian Arab Republic, that I was to deliver at the 8332nd meeting of the Security Council, which was convened on 28 August 2018 to consider the item on the situation in the Middle East.

The Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Yemen told the Security Council today that he plans to invite parties to the conflict in that country to Geneva on 6 September for consultations on a potential framework for talks, confidence‑building measures and plans for moving the peace process forward.

The Security Council, acting unanimously today, adopted a resolution demanding parties to Syria’s seven-year-long conflict to cease hostilities without delay for at least 30 consecutive days, ensuring a “durable humanitarian pause” to enable weekly humanitarian aid deliveries and medical evacuations of the critically sick and wounded.

I. Introduction

1. Le présent rapport est soumis en application de la résolution 2313 (2016), dans laquelle le Conseil de sécurité a prorogé le mandat de la Mission des Nations Unies pour la stabilisation en Haïti (MINUSTAH) jusqu ’au 15 avril 2017 et m’a prié de lui rendre compte de l’exécution du mandat au plus tard 30 jours avant la date d’expiration de celui-ci. Il fait le point sur l’évolution de la situation sur place depuis mon dernier rapport en date ( S/2016/753, du 31 août 2016) et présente les conclusions de la mission d’évaluation stratégique.

I. Introduction

1. The present report is submitted pursuant to Security Council resolution 2313 (2016), by which the Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) until 15 April 2017 and requested me to report on the implementation of the mandate not later than 30 days before its expiration. It covers major developments since my report dated 31 August 2016 (S/2016/753) and presents the findings of the strategic assessment mission.
