OFID – the OPEC Fund for International Development – has approved a US$100,000 emergency aid grant to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support humanitarian operations being carried out by the Guatemalan Red Cross for victims of a recent volcanic eruption.

OFID Director-General Suleiman J Al-Herbish has concluded a high-level mission to Amman, Jordan, where he reaffirmed OFID’s commitment to Palestine through the signing of 10 grant agreements totaling nearly US$16.4 million. The funds will support a range of projects and programs aimed at bolstering the resilience and living standards of the Palestinian people.

Amman, Jordan, 01 April 2018 – The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) and UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People (UNDP/PAPP) signed agreements worth USD 1.16 million to implement projects in support of the resilience of Palestinians residing in East Jerusalem and Gaza Strip. The new agreements aim at providing a sustainable source of drinking water to schools and university students in the Gaza Strip as well as increasing access to healthcare services for cancer patients in East Jerusalem and the visually impaired in the Gaza Strip.

Vienna, Austria, March 27, 2017. The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) has awarded The Carter Center a grant of US$800,000 to help support an initiative to eliminate blinding trachoma in Mali and Niger.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter; Ambassador (ret.) Mary Ann Peters, the Center’s CEO; and Dr. Walid Mehalaine, head of OFID’s Grants and Technical Assistance Unit, gathered Friday, March 24, for a signing ceremony at The Carter Center in Atlanta. Dr. Mehalaine represented Mr. Suleiman Al-Herbish, Director-General of OFID.

The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) has extended two grant agreements to the United Nations Development Program/Program of Assistance to the Palestinian People (UNDP/PAPP). The grants, totaling US$1m, will support initiatives aimed at enhancing cancer care facilities in Jerusalem and creating youth employment opportunities in Gaza.

The agreements were co-signed by OFID Director-General Suleiman J Al-Herbish and Roberto Valent, Special Representative of the UNDP Administrator in Palestine.

The grant has been extended as a result of discussions between the Director General of OFID, Mr Suleiman J. Al-Herbish and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, Dr Kandeh Yumkella.
