Summary

During May 2017, seven incidents of violence against health care were reported. Of these six were verifiied and one is in the process of verifiication. Of the verifiied attacks four incidents were on health care structures providing trauma treatment, while one attack was on health workers and medical point. Two incidents happened in rural Damascus and Dar’a, one each Homs, Hama. Collectively, the attacks resulted in the killing of at least four people, including one medical staff, and wounding at least 18 persons including three medical staff.

Summary

During January 2017, total of twelve incidents of violence against health care were reported. Six of them were verified and other six are still in the process of verification. Of the verified attacks two were health care structures and others involved abduction of senior health personnel, hijacking and destroying of ambulances and assaulting the driver. Three attacks happened in Dar’a, two in Idleb and one in Rural Damascus governorate.

SUMMARY

Generally the number of reported attacks on health care during December 2016 was less compared to last 6 months before that’s due to a cease re has taken place during this month. A total of sixteen incidents were reported. Three were veried and 13 are in the process of verication. Of the veried attacks 3 health care structures and 1 ambulance went temporarily or permanently of service. 1 happened in Aleppo, 1in Idleb and 1 in Rural Damascus governorate.

Health sector partners provided 326,274 outpatient consultations during this period, a decrease of approximately 90,000 from June The number of treatment courses provided however decreased significantly in HTR and besieged areas, specifically across Aleppo and Rural Damascus as a result of reduction of IA convoys due to official approvals and other reasons.

The largest numbers of trauma cases supported were found in Aleppo city (Aleppo), followed by Khan Elshih and Zakyeh (Rural Damascus).

Health sector partners provided 414,546 outpatient consultations during this period, a decrease of approximately 200,000 from May. The number of treatment courses provided however decreased signicantly in HTR and besieged areas, specically across Aleppo and Damascus as a result of reduction of IA convoys due to ocial approvals and other reasons.

The largest numbers of trauma cases supported were found in Aleppo city (Aleppo), followed by Khan Elshih and Zakyeh (Rural Damascus).

Overview of Nutrition Situation and 2016 Response Plan

Given the small number of nutrition data that has been collected and the vulnerability of the population to malnutrition as a result of food insecurity and poor access to health services, in 2015 & 2016,
Partners supported the implementation of SMART nutrition surveys & rapid nutrition assessments in besieged & hard to reach areas by partners acting from North cross borders.

Health sector partners provided 623,763 outpatient consultations during this period, an increase of approximately 300,000 from April. The number of treatment courses provided however decreased by around 350,000 in HTR and besieged areas, mostly across Aleppo and Homs.

The largest numbers of trauma cases supported were found in Jebel Saman, a sub-district of Aleppo, followed by Qatana (Rural Damascus) and Homs (Homs).

Health sector partners provided 385,017 outpatient consultations during this period, an increase of approximately 100,000 from February. More than 50% of this increase is attributed to Eastern Aleppo alone. The number of treatment courses provided however decreased by approximately 100,000 in March, specically across Aleppo and Rural Damascus.

During this reporting period, health sector partners provided 284,035 outpatient consultations, an increase of approximately 50,000 from January. This is due both to increased compliance with reporting and additional numbers of outpatients seen at health facilities in February. The number of treatment courses distributed also increased from 146,148 in January to 181,212 in February, reacting increased cross-line deliveries to besieged areas.

The health sector is increasing efforts through cross-border, cross-line and regular programming to provide life-saving health supplies and services to Hard to Reach and besieged areas. In January 2016 health sector partners provided over 230,000 outpatient consultations, distributed 146,148 treatment courses and supported over 2,000 trauma cases in HTR and besieged areas. Despite this, significant challenges remain to the provision of quality health care:
