Vulnerability in Focus Following the 6.8 magnitude earthquake on September 18th, 2011, structures in Gangtok still stand live, but there are reports stating damages in parts of rural northern and eastern Sikkim that lie on the periphery of this urban capital.

Sikkim is not only susceptible to earthquakes, but also landslides, which have proved to be detrimental in reaching out to save lives.

THE FLOODS IN THE STATE OF ANDHRA PRADESH :

The State of Andhra Pradesh once again faces the vagaries of the nature. Following a prolonged dry spell, which caused the spectra of drought, the State has received heavy rains in recent days (from the very beginning of the month of August 2006) plunging almost half of the State under water.

SEEDS dispatched its first relief and assessment team to Poonch on 09 October. The team was the first external team to reach Poonch and start relief operations in coordination with the District Authorities. The first round of distribution of 100 tents and 500 blankets was completed on 17 October. The distribution has been carried out in the villages of Ajot, Gulpur, Khari, Mandi and Jhallas, besides affected areas of Poonch city.

The second relief team was dispatched on 22 October to replace the first team, and to carry out the second round of relief distribution.
