Vienna, Austria, September 19, 2017. The 160th Session of the Governing Board of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) has approved nearly US$250 million of new development funding to benefit developing countries across the globe.

August 7, 2017, Vienna, Austria. The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) has approved two emergency aid grants to help meet the health and food needs of approximately 67,000 people in Syria and Yemen. The funds will support activities being carried by the IFRC – the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (Syria) and the ICRC - the International Committee of the Red Cross (Yemen). The two grants total US$800,000.

OFID Quarterly examines the wellbeing, safety of children across the world

Vienna, Austria, August 2, 2017. “I like schnitzels, but some food, I don't like,” says 14 year-old Shokria, who is originally from Afghanistan. “I miss some special food from Afghanistan.” Shokria left her home when her father was killed and has been in Vienna for nearly two years. Her story is just one of many perspectives on child refugees examined by the July edition of the OFID Quarterly magazine, which is circulating as of today.

March 22 marked World Water Day; a day when we’re all supposed to take action to tackle the water crisis. But how many people even know there’s a crisis to be tackled? Certainly, a good few in the developing world will be aware that there’s something not quite right, since a full 1.8 billion of them still use a contaminated source of drinking water. This puts them at risk of contracting cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio.

Vienna, Austria, March 27, 2017. The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) has awarded The Carter Center a grant of US$800,000 to help support an initiative to eliminate blinding trachoma in Mali and Niger.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter; Ambassador (ret.) Mary Ann Peters, the Center’s CEO; and Dr. Walid Mehalaine, head of OFID’s Grants and Technical Assistance Unit, gathered Friday, March 24, for a signing ceremony at The Carter Center in Atlanta. Dr. Mehalaine represented Mr. Suleiman Al-Herbish, Director-General of OFID.

The new agreements aim at increasing access to healthcare services for cancer patients in East Jerusalem and creating employment opportunities for youth in Gaza.

The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) has extended two grant agreements to the United Nations Development Program/Program of Assistance to the Palestinian People (UNDP/PAPP). The grants, totaling US$1m, will support initiatives aimed at enhancing cancer care facilities in Jerusalem and creating youth employment opportunities in Gaza.

The agreements were co-signed by OFID Director-General Suleiman J Al-Herbish and Roberto Valent, Special Representative of the UNDP Administrator in Palestine.

Meeting in its 146th Session, the Governing Board of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) has approved financing of nearly US$264 million to boost socio-economic development in over 30 partner countries. Of the new commitments, over US$193m will support 10 public sector loans and nine grants. The bulk of the public sector funding will co-finance agriculture, transportation, education, energy, health and water supply and sanitation projects.
