The hospital will provide medical services to more than 30 thousand IDPs scattered among the camps run by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees, and the UAE Red Crescent-managed camp. The OIC will operate the field hospital for a year from the date of delivery in coordination with the Ministry of Health in Yemen.

The hospital will be set up on a plot of land allocated by the Yemeni Government. It can accommodate 500 people a day for outpatient medical check-ups.

The OIC General Secretariat and a US delegation met on Sunday, 26 July 2009 at the OIC Headquarters in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to discuss follow up action in conjunction with the initiative that the US President Barack Obama announced in his address to the Muslim World, in Cairo June 4, 2009, on a new global effort of the US with the OIC to eradicate polio.

The US delegation comprised of representatives from the US diplomatic representatives based in Saudi Arabia, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the US Department of Health and Human Services and the USAID.

Jeddah 6th May 2009: - On behalf of H.R.H. Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Governor of Makkah Region, H.R.H. Prince Mish'al bin Majed bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of Jeddah, graced the ceremony held by the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), to dispatch a convoy of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip in the aftermath of the recent Israeli onslaught against Gaza. H.R.H. Prince Mish'al also opened a sideline exhibition hosted on Wednesday, May 6th, 2009 by the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu follows with deep concern the threats looming over millions of people due the drought affecting a large swath of land in central and southern Somalia and the Horn of Africa.

The Secretary General has called for immediate relief assistance to be extended to the millions of people who might suffer death by starvation in these regions due to drought and continued wars that led the escalation of the crisis.
