La dengue, le chikungunya et le zika constituent les principales arboviroses qui circulent sur le territoire. Les arboviroses  sont des maladies à déclaration obligatoire (MDO) en Nouvelle-Calédonie. Dans le cadre de ses missions, la DASS mène des programmes d’action spécifiques visant notamment à surveiller ces maladies, à déclencher des alertes en cas d’épidémie, à sensibiliser la population, etc.

Ce jeudi 22 février, la Calédonie est entrée en situation d’épidémie de dengue. De sérotype 2, le virus en circulation cette année ne s’était pas manifesté chez nous depuis une vingtaine d’années.

- The cyclone is heading south-east in the direction of New Caledonia - Winds of up to 300kph have been recorded at the centre
- It is the third late-season cyclone to hit the Pacific

The severe cyclone is still at the second strongest level, a category four, as it heads towards New Caledonia's outer islands — it is expected to make landfall late on Tuesday.

So far there has been cases reported in the Federated States of Micronesia and the Cook Islands.

But the fever is already at epidemic levels in New Caledonia with 127 cases of type-one recorded last month, and 34 cases so far this month.
