UNHCR in 2017 – by the numbers

As of September 2017, UNHCR’s budget is at an historic high of $7.763 billion, which is currently 46% funded

This growth is concurrent with the unabated levels of global displacement, with 67.7 million people of concern to UNHCR worldwide.

The funding gap is widening, now standing at 54%. Based on indications received from donors and analysis of funding trends, UNHCR estimates the gap may reduce to 47% by year’s end.

La situation sécuritaire dans la région de l’Extrême-Nord demeure précaire. La période sous revue a été marquée par une légère accalmie des attaques de Boko Haram. Cependant, plusieurs incidents se sont produits dans les départements du Mayo-Tsanaga, du Mayo-Sava et du Logone et Chari, pour l’essentiel des infiltrations et des enlèvements. La menace terroriste demeure une préoccupation dans la région. Il est recommandé à tous de rester vigilants et prudents, et de respecter les consignes de sécurité.

Por primera vez en 20 años el hambre vuelve a aumentar. Detrás de esta ruptura en la tendencia positiva está la mano del hombre. Concretamente la mano que dispara armas y hambre en más de 40 países. Numerous countries in Africa are facing conflict, drought, food shortages and widespread displacement. The UN estimates millions of people are on the verge of starvation in Southern and Eastern Africa.

In September 2017, Australia provided $20 million to support international relief efforts in Somalia and South Sudan. This is in addition to the $19.3 million of humanitarian assistance provided to South Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Nigeria and Kenya in May 2017.

Nigeria : l’épidémie de choléra qui a éclaté à la semaine 33 dans l’Etat Borno est très active. A la fin de la semaine 36, les services de santé ont rapporté 1 626 cas dont 40 décès pour les 4 Local Government Area (LGA): Jere et MMC, Dikwa, et Mongonu. 53,6% des cas enregistrés sont des enfants de moins 10 ans. A ce sujet, la plateforme régionale choléra conseille de privilégier les analyses épidémiologiques (investigations des contextes de transmission, cartographie des foyers, …) pour mieux orienter et cibler la réponse qui permettra le contrôle rapide de l’épidémie.

En réponse à l’afflux massif des refugies nigérians vers le Cameroun, le camp de Minawao a été ouvert depuis juillet 2013 pour permettre de fournir de façon coordonnée les services de bases aux populations nigérianes victimes de la crise humanitaire au Nord Est du Nigéria. La situation étant encore instable dans les régions du Nord du Nigéria, le Cameroun continue à enregistrer des personnes au camp de Minawao.
