Le CICR mène des activités en République islamique de Mauritanie depuis 1970. Il y a ouvert une délégation en 2013. Le CICR visite les personnes détenues et s’efforce d’améliorer leurs conditions matérielles et de traitement en détention. Dans l’est du pays, il soutient les populations résidentes et réfugiées dans leurs besoins essentiels, tels que l’accès à l’eau et aux services vétérinaires.

This Emergency Appeal seeks a total of some 1,693,785 Swiss francs to enable the IFRC to support the Mauritanian Red Crescent Society (MRC) to deliver assistance and support to some 17,400 people for 9 months, with a focus on the following areas of focus and strategies for implementation: Food security, Health (nutrition) and Livelihoods. The planned response reflects the current situation and information available at this time of the evolving operation and will be adjusted based on further developments and more detailed assessments.

Mauritania hosts over 2,000 urban refugees and asylumseekers and more than 56,000 Malian refugees in Mbera, a camp established in 2012 in the arid south-eastern region close to the Malian border.

Despite the conclusion of a peace agreement in 2015, large-scale returns of Malian refugees are not expected due to persistent violence in northern Mali. In April alone, 768 new arrivals were registered in Mbera.

As the situation in northern Mali continues to be unstable, Mauritania struggles to cope with the growing needs of new refugees and the vulnerable host communities.

Préface

Depuis janvier 2012, la situation d’insécurité persistante au nord du Mali continue de provoquer des afflux massifs de réfugiés maliens en Mauritanie.

En réponse à cet afflux, en consultation avec le Ministère de l’Intérieur et de la Décentralisation, le HCR, l’Agence des Nations Unies pour les Réfugiés a établi un camp à Mbera (département de Bassikounou), dans la région semi-aride du Hodh Echargui. À présent, le camp abrite plus de 53 000 réfugiés recevant une protection et une assistance du HCR et de ses partenaires.

En Mauritanie, le CICR apporte protection et assistance aux populations civiles dans le besoin, travaille à améliorer les conditions de détention et fait également la promotion du droit international humanitaire. Enfin, il soutient les activités du Croissant-Rouge mauritanien.

Faits marquants de l'action du CICR en 2016:

  • Les équipes du CICR ont visité 2 200 détenus.

  • 30 agents de santé des prisons ont reçu une formation sur la prise en charge des maladies mentales et du VIH/SIDA en milieu carcéral.

In Mauritania, UNHCR provides protection and assistance to over 51,000 Malian refugees in the arid south-east region where Mbera refugee camp was established in 2012.

UNHCR protects and assists over 2,000 urban refugees and asylum seekers in the cities of Nouakchott and Nouadhibou, mostly from Central Africa, Syria and Côte d’Ivoire.

Security in northern Mali is still volatile and largescale returns are not expected. Protracted displacement places considerable pressure on the limited local resources.

In 2012, violent clashes in northern Mali have triggered important waves of displacement into Mauritania. Mbera refugee camp was established in the arid south-east region and now hosts over 51,000 Malian refugees.

Despite the conclusion of a peace agreement in 2015, refugees continue to flee persistent violence in northern Mali. Last month alone 356 new arrivals were registered in Mbera camp.
