In areas where trash pickup is challenging and accumulations of rubbish lead to flooding, a homegrown collection system is cutting risks

YAOUNDE, Sept 6 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - When frequent flooding became too much for the residents of Nkolbikok, a neighbourhood in Cameroon's capital, they decided to take matters into their own hands – with gloves and wheelbarrows.
In Lóvua, there are currently 1,495 refugees living in the settlement, the next relocation is scheduled for 31 August from Cacanda reception centre.
A Child Friendly Space has been established in Lóvua with 264 children out of 754 attending in the first week of operation.
Malaria cases have decreased, however due to the start of the rainy season this trend is expected to invert.

Upon arrival in Lóvua, all refugees received medical support, relief items and a one-day food ration.
Malaria continues to be the main cause of morbidity with a total of 285 cases recorded during the reporting week.

On 8 August a total of 351 Congolese refugees (121 families) were successful relocated from Mussungue reception centre to the Lóvua site.
By the end of the current week the full relocation of Mussunge reception centre to Lóvua is expected to be completed.
Malaria infection rates remain similar to past week, 348 in both centres (last week 335 were registered).
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY With the Syria crisis entering its seventh year in 2017, Jordan is hosting some 1.266 million Syrians,1 of which 655,833 are registered as refugees.2 Providing for their needs, without jeopardizing Jordanian people, institutions and systems’ development gains and opportunities, has impacted heavily on Jordan’s finances, increasing government expenditures on subsidies, public services and security, while further compounding the negative economic consequences of regional instability.
ENSO forecast from global centers indicate a 50% chance of El Niño conditions developing during the second half of 2017. There are chances for the current persisting neutral condition to continue or weak to moderate El Niño like conditions might be possible. Historical data suggests that El Niño events which has onset from July to October are relatively weaker though other possibilities are not entirely ruled out at this stage.
New Indonesia report highlights critical role of ending child poverty and violence to achieving sustainable development

UN report urges accelerated efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals
17 July 2017 – If the world is to eradicate poverty, address climate change and build peaceful, inclusive societies for all by 2030, greater efforts are needed to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to a United Nations report presented today by Secretary-General António Guterres.
