Since it emerged from over two decades of war 17 years ago, Afghanistan has made steady progress across almost all economic and social sectors: girls are going to school again, all ethnic groups are being given equal rights, and power grids are up and running in much of the country. Unfortunately, many of these development gains have also been quickly lost due to continuing civil unrest, which is destroying infrastructure and preventing both national and international development staff from doing much-needed work in many parts of the country.

The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2018 found that conflict and climate change were major contributing factors leading to growing numbers of people facing hunger and forced displacement, as well as curtailing progress towards universal access to basic water and sanitation services.

Today (24/5), the Minister for National Development Planning H.E. Bambang Brodjonegoro, the Minister of Environment and Forestry H.E. Siti Nurbaya Bakar, and the EU Ambassador to Indonesia H.E. Vincent Guérend, jointly launched the EU-Indonesia Blue Book 2018, an annual report on EU-Indonesia development cooperation. The report demonstrates the success stories of development cooperation that the EU and its Member States provide to Indonesia.

UN report urges accelerated efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals
