Highlights

  • Tropical Storm Son-Tinh caused heavy rains in 13 provinces and unprecedented flash floods in Sanamxay District in Attapeu Province. The water level is receding slowly, but road access remains difficult.

  • Based on the Government’s information, 13 villages have been affected, five are considered severely affected. The Government has declared the affected area as a National Disaster Zone.

  • Current identified needs are water, health, food, shelter and psychosocial support.

  • Tropical storm Son-Tinh affected several provinces, the most severe being Sanamxay District in Attapeu Province.

  • Based on the Government’s information, 13 villages have been affected, out of which six are considered severely affected. The Government has declared the affected area as a National Disaster Area.

  • The water level in the affected district is going down slowly but roads are still very muddy and difficult to access.

• Tropical storm Son-Tinh has affected several provinces, the most severe being Sanamxay District. Attapeu Province. This is the largest flood the country has seen in the past ten years.

• Staff from several UN agencies participated in the initial rapid response with government staff and is finalizing their response plans.

• The UN activated five clusters, namely WASH, Health, Food Security and Nutrition, Shelter and Logistics. The clusters met to draft a detailed matrix showing needs, response and gaps.
