On 7 November 2016, at the location Čardak – Tramošnica Donja in the municipality Pelagićevo, mine accident had happened where shepherd F.S., from the village Suvi Do – Municipality Travnik, died.

According to the initial report, the accident happened by activation of anti-personnel mine PROM -1, in the area that has not been declared as risk or marked with signs of mine danger.

Land Release is consistent with international standards for humanitarian demining or IMAS, which aims to be the most economical and efficient way to return the users as much of the suspect area in the shortest possible time and to clean only confirmed areas containing mines and explosive devices.

Land Release Project is funded by the EU (IPA 2011), with the plan to return to the use of about 53 km2 in 2016, through 10 pilot projects so far developed.

Federal Civil Protection is currently conducting demining activities in the area Kazagići, local community Hubjeri, municipality Gorazde.

Technical survey activities will be conducted at area of 72.965,00m2, where 20 pieces of anti-personnel, anti-personnel mines and tripwires are expected to be found . Demining activities should be completed in the next two months.

Funds in the amount of 800,000 KM for the purpose of mine action in BiH in 2015, presenting continuation of German assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the implementation of 6 projects of clearance and technical survey in the municipalities of Konjic, Maglaj and Lukavac, at total size of 414,879 m2, will be allocated by German Embassy. As previously, funds will be channeled through ITF-Enhancing Human Security .

Last week in the zone of responsibility of the BH MAC RU Brcko, three tasks, financed by the ITF-USA, were handed over to the local authorities for further use. Tasks were implemented by NN IVSA, local demining organization.

Implemented projects are clearance projects: "Dubrava-drum 1A" 23.157,99m2 area, located in the Brcko District, the project "Blazevac 5" 38.581,31m2 area, located in the municipality Pelagićevo, and the project "Blazevac 6A" , located in the area of Brcko District.

In these difficult moments when Bosnia and Herzegovina is suffering from the biggest natural disaster it is necessary to pay special attention to landmine survivors of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is clear that mine victims are special group in the group of persons with disabilities and that it is necessary to pay special attention to these people when providing assistance. Mine Action Centre in BiH appeals for assistance to NGOs who are taking care of mine victims to be especially sensitive to the needs of this vulnerable group and their families .

As part of the activities of monitoring the situation regarding the potential "moving" of mines in the region due to flooding, a regional expert team which consists of representatives of the Mine Action Center of Republic of Serbia, the Mine Action Center of Republic of Croatia and Mine Action Centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday, May 23, 2014 will hold a meeting in Spacva, Croatia, within which will be determined the plan of action to eliminate the mine danger caused by flooding in the region.

  1. Estimated mine suspected area impacted by floods is approximately 800km2 .

  2. Critical points are: landslides, river beds, river banks and areas flooded by water level above 1m.

  3. Large amounts of UXO and SALW are currently the biggest threat.

  4. Mine danger signs have been shifted away or destroyed.

  5. Highest danger in known mine suspected areas with landslide activity.

All operational teams of Mine Action Centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina are present in flooded areas where the water receded, with the aim of gathering information on changing the borders of suspected hazardous areas caused by floods and landslides.

Many mine action organizations for emergency situations and emergency demining interventions are offering help to Mine Action Centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
