From 11th August onwards, severe floodings took place in Nepal and Bangladesh due to incessant rains. ICCO Cooperation, together with Kerk in Actie and ACT Alliance, helps the victims of the floods.

ICCO Cooperation and our local partner (CCDN), with support from Kerk in Actie (KiA), is supporting 600 flood-affected households from Rautahat District, Nepal. The distribution program is being conducted in collaboration with District Disaster Relief Committee (DDRC) of Rautahat.

These are the words of Mulu Yami, 28, from Bushoftu town in Ethiopia; she is one of the 30,000 smallholders who were reached by the Food Security and Rural Entrepreneurship Fund (FSRE fund). She has a poultry business. The FSRE Innovation Fund was financed by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ethiopia and managed by ICCO Cooperation on behalf of AgriProFocus.

This week trainings of the project “ACT for Humanitarian Capacity Development” take place at the global office of ICCO in Utrecht, the Netherlands. From 16th till 19th of August, 20 humanitarians from disaster prone countries receive training in how to deal with disasters and emergencies. In this way, communities will be better prepared to cope with disasters like the drought in Ethiopia, floods in Bangladesh and the earthquake in Nepal.

ICCO Cooperation spent €59,3 million on development programs in 39 countries in Africa, Latin Amerika and Asia in 2015. This can be found in the annual report ICCO Cooperation which shows the financial and operational results. A big part of the revenues came from the Dutch government. Other important donors were the European Union, the Dutch Postcode Lottery, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID and IDB.

One year ago, Nepal was hit by a massive earthquake. Followed by a month of aftershocks, and a second major quake on May 12th.

More than 8,000 people lost their lives and 22,000 got injured. The earthquake destroyed 800,000 homes and large numbers of people lost their livelihoods.

Producing and marketing 20 tons of beeswax: that’s the aim for which ICCO Cooperation and the private company Olvea Burkina Faso, have been awarded a grant by USAID/Mali. The coming two years ICCO and Olvea will provide technical assistance to 3,000 women active in beeswax.

ICCO Cooperation, along with its local implementing partner ISARD, have been repairing infrastructure damaged by the earthquake in Sindhupalchok, one of the hardest-hit districts by the earthquake in Nepal. Among these are cardamom kilns in the village of Latu, Chokati.

We are deeply saddened by the shocking news of the death of our dear colleague Cesare Tavella. He was working for ICCO Cooperation as Program Manager of a large scaled project focusing on food security and economic development for people living in rural areas in Bangladesh.

On the evening of Monday, September 28, 2015, we were informed by the police that Cesare has been shot dead, in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

ECHO will be funding ICCO Cooperation, as one of the members under the ACT Alliance Nepal Forum, for implementing the “Early Recovery Support to Earthquake Affected Communities in Nepal” project. ICCO will focus on “Shelter” and “WASH” based interventions for nine months in Makwanpur district.

The Dutch NGOs Joint Humanitarian Response for South Sudan (SSJR) is an emergency live saving program targeting both the IDPs and the host communicates of acute and chronic food insecure households affected by ongoing conflict in Abyei area, Western Bahr-el-Ghazal (WBeG), Equatoria (Eq) Central, Eq East, Eq West, Jonglei, Unity, Upper Nile, Warrap States of South Sudan.

The SSJR consortium is led by Save the Children International (SC) and includes CARE, Cordaid, Dorcas, HealthNet-TPO, ICCO & Kerk in Actie, OXFAM-Novib, PLAN, Stichting Vluchteling, World Vision, ZOA.

These tools will generate crucial information about the needs of people from the ground on real time basis, for ACT Alliance members and their implementing partners. Akvo FLOW and RSR will be extremely useful to conduct the needs and market assessments that are required to proceed further recovery work.

ICCO/Kerk in Actie is providing for relief aid in the Kathmandu Valley after the massive earthquake. Tents, food and blankets are distributed through ACT Alliance.

ACT is an international partnership of aid agencies, which are collectively working on relief and reconstruction after this disaster.

Saturday April 25, Nepal was hit by a massive earthquake. According to the latest UN figures 70,000 houses are destroyed and half a million houses badly damaged. As a result almost 2.8 million Nepalese people are homeless.

Houses and lands are restored, fishermen got new boats. But there was also attention to psychosocial support and land rights. A year after the devastating typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines we see that the local partners of ICCO and Kerk in Actie have already done a lot of work for the victims.
