Recent Situational Developments

Yemen remains in the grip of war with 2.8 million internally displaced persons including 0.5 million newly displaced since June 2018. Out of the newly displaced persons, 84 percent are originated from Al Huday-dah and close to 91 percent voiced their critical needs for shelter assis-tance according to the latest IOM ETT (Emergency Tracking Tool) report.

Between late 2013 and 2017, intensification of conflict in north and central Iraq has resulted in large scale displacement with 1.9 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) identified across Iraq as of August 2018. Of these, approximately 95,000 to 116,000 IDPs are estimated to be residing in informal sites. In Anbar governorate, roughly 4,400 IDPs are estimated to be in informal sites.

The Shelter/NFI/CCCM Cluster YHRP 2018 will focus on more sustainable interventions recognizing the need for Livelihoods opportunities if families are to be given a chance to escape from the debilitating cycle of poverty. It also recognizes the need to harness the significant capacity of National Partners to bring the response closer to the beneficiaries, by focussing on capacity building and highlighting the need for all Clusters to work together to deliver an 'integrated response'.

  • 147 households (corresponding to 369 individuals) voluntarily registered with IOM enumerators.

  • 54% of registered households have indicated being owners of the house they resided in before the hurricane.

  • 67% households have indicated that their former residence was completely destroyed by Hurricane Maria

How far we’ve come - Updates on YHRP 2017 Cluster Indicators

The situation continues to deteriorate both for the families in displacement as well as for our Partners struggling to provide much needed assistance. Our Partners carried out critical work that touched the lives of 81,355 families this year.

Recent emergency displacements due to flooding and conflict were reported mainly in Taizz, Hajjah, Al Jawf, and Sa’ada Governorates to which the Sub National Clusters organized emergency responses in coordination with the local authorities.

Khin Khin Saw stands out from a group of chatting women in Baw Du Pha-1 camp. She has determination in her eyes and does not shy away from sharing her story with us. For the past five years, BdP camp has been her home, where she lives with her six children. Making a living is difficult, and not being able to always feed her children when they are hungry, keeps her awake at night.

Renewed fighting in the areas of Padiet and Pathow of the northern area of Wau Shilluk on 26 March forced hundreds of intssrnally displaced persons (IDPs) to move northwards from the areas of Agodo, Bouth and Yonj to Koum, Orinj, Kodok and Abrouc. These areas have been the front line and resulted in the SPLA-IO repositioning themselves at Lul Paym particularly Yonj area in Fashoda Payam.
