Georgia Red Cross Society conducted baseline survey in the framework of the second phase of the project “Building Safe and Resilient Communities” which is supported by Austrian Development Cooperation and Austrian Red Cross.Survey was conducted in Kakheti Region, namely in five target branches: Sagarejo, Telavi, Kvareli, Lagodekhi and Akhmeta.
Through February 9-12 and February 23-25, 2016 simulation exercises were conducted in Lentekhi, Ambrolauri, Oni, Tsageri, Sachkhere, Tkibuli and Chiatura Municipalities with the participation of Community Volunteer Teams (CVG). The teams (20 people in each) according to the scenario had to deal with different tasks and compete to each other in search and rescue, as well as in providing of the First Aid and Psychosocial Support to the affected people by the flood using all special equipment.
Georgia Red Cross Society continues to support people affected by the flood and mud-flows in Tbilisi on June 13-14, 2015.
Through June 13-14, 2015 heavy rain caused mud flow and flash flooding of rivers Vere and Mtkvari seriously affected central part of Tbilisi and its surrounding villages.
On January 20, 2012, Georgia Red Cross Society (GRCS) Disaster Management Department conducted the distribution operation (1 blanket, 1 mattress and 1 hygiene parcel) to the 150 the most affected families by floods in August, 2011, in Lagodekhi Municipality. Relief Operation was supported by German Red Cross Society. Identification of affected families, as well as identification of their needs, was based on the assessment carried out by GRCS staff and volunteers in the target Municipality, in close coordination and cooperation with local authorities.
On December 20, 2012 Georgia Red Cross Society (GRCS) conducted charity event in Lagodekhi region and helped people affected by floods. 150 families from Lagodekhi and nearby villages received humanitarian assistance.
Each of them was given one mattress, one blanket, one hygienic parcel and one parcel from “Nikora” (company which produces meat products) , containing 5 different meat products. Journalists, of GRCS media club also participated in the distribution process.
Georgia Red Cross Society obtained the list of affected people from Lagodekhi municipality.
Georgia Red Cross Society supported by the International Federation (DREF operation) continues the distribution operation to support people affected by floods in Georgia. Through July, August 2011 GRCS conducted distribution operations to support affected population in Dusheti and Khashuri municipalities. 350 most affected households received two blankets, two mattresses and hygienic parcel.
On July 19, 2011 Georgia Red Cross Society supported by the International Federation conducted distribution operation to support population affected by recent floods in Dusheti municipality. 100 most affected households received two blankets, two mattresses and hygienic parcel.
In the interview with media representatives beneficiaries mentioned that they didn’t receive any kind of support for long time and this operation provided by GRCS is relevant and very important for affected households.
