The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, called on the OIC Member States to channel part of their humanitarian assistance through the OIC General Secretariat, in line with the resolutions of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs. He also called on Member States, their charitable institutions and civil society organizations to assist the OIC Secretariat in its humanitarian efforts.

We, the Foreign Ministers and Heads of Delegations of Member-States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), participants of the 45thSession of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC held in Dhaka, on 5-6 May 2018, under the theme “Islamic Values for Sustainable Peace and Development”, declare as follows:
The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed its denunciation of the attack using internationally banned chemical weapons on Eastern Ghouta Region of Damascus that claimed the lives of innocent civilians, defying the most basic humanitarian principles and rules of the International Law. The OIC considered the attack as falling within the act of a war crime and a crime against humanity.

1. The Heads of State and government of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held a meeting to discuss the current developments of the situation of the Muslim Rohingya community in Myanmar, on the sidelines of the 1 st OIC Summit of Science and Technology in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, on 10th September 2017, on the initiative of H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey, current chair of the OIC Summit.
The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen, highlighted that the OIC-stemmed Islamic Solidarity Fund has contributed since the beginning of its activity in 1976 until this year 2017 in funding many social, cultural, economic, educational and health projects in the State of Palestine.
The total amounts in this regard has reached around US $ 26.939 million, under what is known as the item of support to the steadfastness and struggle of the Palestinian people.
The Islamic Solidarity Fund of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) announced that the number of projects approved and executed since its establishment up to 2017 is about 2, 695 projects in the amount of US$249 million. The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen lauded the ongoing generous voluntary contributions by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the Republic of Turkey.
The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation calls upon the international community, the international organizations and the civil society organizations to intensify their efforts in supporting the Republic of Yemen to contain the cholera epidemic, stop its spread and address the humanitarian and health situation, which has significantly deteriorated.
The OIC General Secretariat expressed its strong condemnation of the acts of violence perpetrated at Bangassou in Central Africa, by Anti Balaka militias, on 12-13 May 2017, which claimed the lives of dozens of dead among Muslims and UN peacekeepers, including a soldier from the Kingdom of Morocco and five others of different nationalities, as well as the displacement of hundreds of unarmed civilians.
A five-day workshop to strengthen the capacity of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to effectively respond to humanitarian crises and coordinate within the international humanitarian system is held in Kampala, Uganda at the initiative of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in cooperation with the United States Agency for International Development, Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) and implemented by International Medical Corps.

Kabul, 19 August 2016 – At the start of a three-day visit to Afghanistan, high-level officials from the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation today commemorated World Humanitarian Day in Kabul urging increased international partnerships to address the root causes of humanitarian needs, reduce communities’ vulnerability to disasters and raise awareness of Afghanistan’s protracted humanitarian crisis.

The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Iyad Ameen Madani received on Sunday 28 February 2016, Alhaj Murad Ebrahim, Chairman of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). The meeting came after the severe setback to the peace process due to the failure of the Philippine Congress to adopt the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL). The Secretary General expressed his deep disappointment over the non-passage of the BBL which is a major step towards the final resolution of the Bangsamoro question.
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has expressed its concern at a statement issued by the Afghan Taliban on 12th October where news channels and journalists in Afghanistan were specifically identified as potential targets.
The OIC called on all sides to respect and protect the right to freedom of expression. It said that journalists, according to international humanitarian law, are civilians, and that any attack on them is against the rule of law.
(New York, 1 October 2015) At a high-level meeting yesterday on the margins of the 70th United Nations General Assembly, the United States of America, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) called for greater engagement from the international community on the dire humanitarian crisis in Iraq.

An Emergency Open-ended Meeting of the Executive Committee at the level of Permanent Representatives on the humanitarian crisis in Syria was convened on 13th September 2015 at the General Secretariat in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to discuss the dramatic escalation of the tragedy of the Syrian refugees in the region and beyond. The United Nations Human Rights Council adopted today the resolution sponsored by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on “Ensuring accountability and justice for all violations of international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem”.
