Border communities at risk in the Sahel
In July, Danish Demining Group (DDG) presented the findings from its Border Security Needs Assessment (BSNA) to national border authorities from Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger. Based on the findings, DDG will implement programming that strengthens border security and management, and improves community safety in the Sahel’s Liptako-Gourma region.
In 2008, the High Commissioner for Refugees (HC) launched a Special Initiative on Protracted Refugee Situations (PRS) to promote durable solutions and improvements in the life of these refugees. The HC's initiative focused on five situations in different parts of the world, four of which have been selected for evaluation: the Croatian refugees in Serbia; the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh; the Eritrean refugees in Eastern Sudan; and the Burundian refugees in Tanzania.
The purpose of this paper is to discuss central challenges in connection with providing sanitation services from the perspective of international development assistance.

The Joint Organisation Strategy (JOS) is
a collaborative framework between the United Nations High Commissioner
for Refugees (UNHCR), Canada, Denmark, and the United Kingdom (UK) that
aimed at increasing the efficiency of their working relationship and strengthening
UNHCR's capacity for operational delivery. The strategy was conceived
in 2006 and put in place in mid 2007. The JOS was aligned with UNHCR's
Global Strategic Objectives developed in 2006 and was guided by the priorities
of the Executive Committee and its Standing Committee.
We condemn the recent explosions at the offices of Care Nepal in Janakpur, and the International Organisation of Migration in Jhapa, as acts that will only serve to deny peace and development to the people of Nepal.
