Bangui, February 25, 2015 (FH) – Victims of the Lord’s Resistance Army in the Central African Republic are urging the International Criminal Court to include crimes committed in their country in its case against former LRA commander Dominic Ongwen.

The LRA committed serious crimes in the CAR as well as in Ongwen’s home country of Uganda. Ongwen has been in ICC detention since last month, but his case concerns only crimes committed in Uganda before 2005. His confirmation of charges hearing is scheduled for August 24.

International Justice

A big information gap separates international courts charged with trying the world's worst crimes from the populations that have been victim of those crimes. Independent information can help to reduce this gap. That's a challenge Fondation Hirondelle is ready to take up.

International justice has made big strides in the last fifteen years, with the creation since 1993 of several international criminal tribunals and then, in 2002, of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

La Fondation Hirondelle est présente en République centrafricaine depuis mars 2000. En concertation avec le gouvernement et le PNUD (Programme des Nations Unies pour le développement), ainsi qu'avec plusieurs partenaires, elle travaille activement à la mise en oeuvre d'un programme radiophonique de paix et de développement dans ce pays qui, en 2001, a connu deux coups d'Etat.
