Scientific researches has revealed that the number of areas that are prone to landslides in Azerbaijan has increased by four times in the past 24 years. Many landslide zones exist in Lerik, Yardimli, on Shamakhi Road, and in the Absheron peninsula.

The relative activity in the dynamics of landslide processes, and the processes of collapse and flooding was recorded at 106-111 kilometers of Baku-Shamakhi highway, in the territories of the settlements of Zykh-1, Mashtaga-Zabrat, Dash Karkhanasi and Gala.

Azerbaijan and Pakistan have agreed to establish relations in the field of humanitarian mine clearance as chairman of the Pakistani National Disaster Management Agency Omar Mahmoud Hayat met with director of Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) Gazanfar Ahmadov. The two countries agreed to exchange experience in humanitarian mine clearance operations, Azertac reported.

Ahmadov highlighted ANAMAs activity and international projects, including workshops for local and international experts.

Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) has concluded the mine cleaning operations in the liberated Jojug Marjanli village of Jabrayil region.

During the 126 days of operations, ANAMA inspected 151 houses in the village and the area where the new road will be laid out, Trend reported on July 3.

Construction of 100 more houses starts in Jojug Marjanli village, Azerbaijan’s State Committee for Refugees and IDPs reported on July 4.

In this regard, representatives of the Social Fund for Development of IDPs and construction companies visited the liberated Jojug Marjanli and inspected the area where the new settlement will be built.

The restoration work is nearing completion in the liberated Jojug Marjanli village of Jabrayil region.

Chief Executive of the region Kamal Hasanov told Trend that more than 90 percent of the restoration work has been completed. “The work will be fully completed in the near future and the resettlement of people will begin.”

The three-day Central Asian International Environmental Forum titled “Initiative for Cooperation on Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development in Central Asia” has ended in Ashgabat city, Turkmenistan State News Agency reported.

The event was organized by the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Environmental Protection and Land Resources and the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC).

Turkey has launched a mine cleaning project that stipulates demining operations on the borders with Azerbaijan, Armenia and Iran, Turkish media reported on April 5.

The project, which will be carried out in the border areas of 15 million square meters, is funded by the Turkish government and the European Union.

The mine cleaning work will start in Turkey's Igdir province and will last two years. For these purposes, special equipment and specially trained dogs will be attracted to the project.

Residents of the Jojug Marjanli village in the Jabrayil region seek to return to their homes after the village was liberated from the Armenian occupation, and now will be restored upon the presidential order.

The village was liberated from the Armenian occupation in April 2016 as a result of a successful counter-attack of the Azerbaijani Army. Now, the village is fully under control of the Azerbaijani side and people can safely live in the village.

A monthly allowance of 36 manats shall be allocated for IDPs and those equal to them from 1 January 2017 on, instead of payments for food as well as communal and other services from the state budget for IDPs and those alike.

The Cabinet of Ministers was tasked to determine the contingent to which the monthly allowance prescribed. The procedure of payment shall be determined and reported to the President.

Proposals on adjusting the presidential acts to this decree shall be prepared within one month and submitted the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The World Bank (WB), one of the most prestigious international financial institutions, continues to render its assistance for provision of better livelihoods, improvement of living conditions and increasing the economic self-reliance of targeted internally displaced persons (IDP) in Azerbaijan.

The institution plans to improve living conditions of some 371,000 IDP’s and refugees in Azerbaijan till 2020. The bank plans to issue loans worth some $15 million till 2020.

The Geography Institute of the ANAS has revealed a map of landslide zones on a territory of Baku.

Nariman Pashayev, Head of the Department of Economic and Political Geography of the Institute said that about 20 areas in the capital are considered landslide zones and more than 150,000 people live on the territory.

These zones are Ahmadli and Zigh avenues, areas in Binagadi, Bailov, Badamdar and around Masazir lake.

A bill “On Repatriation of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons” is being developed in Azerbaijan. Hadi Rajabli, the chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliamentary Committee on labor and social affairs announced about this on January 28.

Azerbaijan has over one million refugees and IDPs, who were forced to leave their native lands as a result of the Armenian aggression.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has signed an Order increasing by 10 percent the monthly allowance for food expenses of internally displaced persons.

The growth will be applied from February 1, 2016.

The bloody war, which flared up in the late 1980s due to Armenia's territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor, left 700,000 civilians of Nagorno-Karabakh and the regions adjoining it, as well as the regions bordering with Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh without homes.

The Azerbaijani Emergency Situations Ministry has sent a humanitarian aid to Kyrgyzstan in accordance with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s instructions.

The aid is sent in connection with a strong earthquake that hit Kyrgyzstan’s Osh Province.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Faig Tagizade and Kyrgyz Ambassador to Baku Ayjigit Buranov.

Twenty trucks will be forward to Aktau in Kazakhstan from Baku International Sea Trade Port on the ferry, after what it will be headed to Kyrgystan.

The increasing number of landslides in different parts of Baku and the Absheron Peninsula this October has raised fears among the population.

Construction work on the slopes of Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, the use of a watering yard, the outpouring of groundwater on the surface, and other factors are the cause of these landslides, which have been a problem in the past as well, Alemdar Piriyev, senior geologist at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences told the local media.

The Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) defused 3,657,657 square meters of the country’s territory in October, ANAMA reported.

ANAMA detected and defused 83 unexploded ordnances (UXOs) in October.

Some 488 sappers, 112 assistants, six mechanical mine clearing machines and 36 mine-detection dogs are involved in mine clearing operations.

As much as 309,423,464 square metres of land have been cleared of mines so far and the number of defused landmines and UXOs amounted to 713,777.

After a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit one of the poorest nations on Earth, Nepal, on April 25 the country’s many survivors find themselves in desperate need of food and water.

The devastating earthquake and its aftershock on April 26 killed more than 5,000 people in the country’s Kathmandu Valley. More than eight million people have been affected by the quake, the UN said. About 10,000 people have been injured.

Each year, the Foundation presents schoolbags and teaching aids to first-form pupils from refugee and IDP families that were forced to leave their permanent places of residence as a result of Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan.
