On July 24, Members of Congress and leaders from NGOs, advocacy groups, and faith-based organizations gathered on Capitol Hill to launch the Roadmap for Continued U.S. Leadership to End Global Hunger. The Roadmap celebrates the U.S. role in responding to humanitarian crises and alleviating chronic hunger. It also outlines six recommendations as part of a comprehensive strategy to ensure continued effectiveness of U.S. global food security programs.

WASHINGTON -- Grave-covered hillsides and overflowing orphanages are the most visible changes in famine-stricken North Korea since he visited last year, U.S. Rep. Tony P. Hall said today. Hall, D-Ohio, spoke at a news conference today about his five-day trip to North Korea last week.

In his fourth trip to the closed nation, Hall visited Chongjin and Orang (cities in the far northeastern part of the country) and Sariwon (a town south of the capital), and saw people continuing to suffer from starvation and severe malnutrition in both places.
