05 Dec 2003 description

Creating a record, Tropical Storm Odette becomes the first storm to form in the Caribbean Sea in December since record keeping started in 1886.

A disturbance was upgraded to Tropical Depression 20 early Thursday morning and by last evening it has strengthened to become a tropical storm.

Defying most computer models, Odette was moving to the right or more eastward, that what the models were predicting.

At 7 o'clock this morning Odette continued moving towards Hispaniola where tropical storm warnings were in effect for both Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
