Demining Committee of Lions District 126 Croatia has on the occasion of April 4 and in cooperation with Lions Club Beli Manstir and Croatian Mine Action Centre regional office East organized and held a lecture titled "Dangers of mines" at elementary school Franjo Tuđman in Beli Manastir as a continuation of good cooperation with the CROMAC, and as a engagement on the occasion of the action "April - month of protection from mines".
On Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at the community center in Okučani in Brod-Posavina County, a tribune ˝Less arms, less tragedies˝ was held. The tribune was organized by Brod-Posavina Police Department, Okučani Police Department, Croatian Mine Action Centre and Committee for the prevention of Okučani municipality. Citizens of Okučani and students from the elementary school Okučani and Dragalić together with their teachers, as well as employees of Croatian Forests showed the interest for this action.
In January and February this year 4.8 square kilometers of demining activities were contracted and realized, whereby 123 pieces of mines and 292 pieces of various UXO was found and destroyed.
On Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the elementary school "Ivan Lovrić" in Sinj an educational lecture on mine risk was held for 56 students of the first grade.
Mr. Mirko Matković held an introduction to the education through the presentation titled "Spot the Odd One", after which an animated film "Plop" was shown to the students. Also, Head of Regional office South, Ph.D. Josip Čerina, held an interactive presentation "Find Intruder" through which he introduced the danger of mines that still exist to the children.
According to the project "The surfaces in the area of Sinj", with layout area of 67,034 square meters, demining activities of the last mine suspected areas are finalizing.
Surfaces within the project are contaminated with unexploded ordnance (UXO) - cluster-bomb type KB-1, the so called ˝zvončići˝, while with the realization of this project 15 pieces have been found so far.
The activities were performed by thirty deminers, and the completion of this project is expected in three days.
In the area of Zadar, Šibenik - Knin and Split - Dalmatia County demining activities are carried out within the 11 projects, while additional 4 projects are waiting for the start of implementation.
The total size of listed 15 projects is 5.7 square kilometers, and their contracted value is slightly higher than 30 million.
This year's demining of croatian south is marked by a record number of engaged deminers in a single day. On January 22, 2016 509 deminers were hired on active demining projects.
Considering the fact that weather conditions in continental part of Croatia are unfavourable for continuation of de-mining activities, by the beginning of the next week de-mining activities will start in southern part of Croatia.
Planned tender procedures for these activities were conducted in last quarter of 2015. Total area covered by these activities is 5.643.257 m² in Zadar, Šibenik – Knin and Split – Dalmatia County. All together, 14 projects will be conducted that total KN 30,770,713.62.

The Workshop ''Accreditation, Contracting and Monitoring for Mine Action Agencies'' was held from 7 to 10 December 2015. The organizers were Croatian Mine Action Centre (CROMAC), Centre for Testing, Development and Training (CTDT) and Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD). The Workshop was held for 14 participants coming from the Arabic-speaking countries: Libya, Mauritania, Lebanon, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Somalia.
Education on mine danger was held in Elementary school Zemunik Donji in cooperation with representatives of Police Administration Zadar, Mrs. Sandra Poljak Jurinić, Mrs. Mila Nimac and Mr. Eugen Tissauerom. Head of the CROMAC office South, Mr. Josip Čerina held education on mine and unexploded ordinances protection. Education gathered more than 83 students and their teachers. During the education children were informed about the dangers that could be found in their surroundings and how to behave if they come across war remainings.
In the area of Karlovac, Sisak - Moslavina and Brod - Posavina County demining activities of agricultural land are held financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
Activities are taking place on a total of six projects in total of 18 square kilometers.
County prefect Milan Kolić, the director of the Croatian Mine Action Centre Dražen Jakopec and the director of "Explorer" Ltd. from Nuštar Vladimir Franjić, have today in the County prefect Cabinet, signed three agreements on search and demining of agricultural areas around Lika-senj County, whose realization is financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
By continuing the implementation of the annual plan, in the week from 21 to 25 of September, 2015, employees of the CROMAC in cooperation with the Croatian Ministry of Interior conducted an education regarding the mine risk and residual weapons in Dvor and Topusko in Sisak-Moslavina County and in Brestovac in Požega – Slavonija County.
Prefect of the Osijek - Baranja County Vladimir Šišljagić, director of the Croatian Mine Action Centre Dražen Jakopec and directors of companies ISTRAŽIVAČ d.o.o. Nuštar and PITON d.o.o. Čakovec contractors, have signed the agreements on demining of agricultural land in Osijek - Baranja County, funded by grant from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) in the amount of 85% of the total value.
In accordance with the annual educational plan, informative and educational programe was held in Komarevo in cooperation with representatives of the Ministry of Interior and Moslavina PD to educate the population about mine danger, as part of "Less arms, less tragedies". Students of the primary school Komarevo also attended aforementioned education.
The project Demining, restoration and protection of forests and forest land in protected and Natura 2000 sites in the Danube-Drava region - Naturavita was presented on Wednesday at the dike along the Drava River in the municipality of Darda. At the same time the completion of the major project of demining of the Drava inundation zone in the area of municipalities of Jagodnjak, Darda and Petrijevci, worth 4.5 million euros, was marked. The EU representatives had conducted technical supervision yesterday.
Prefect of Požega - Slavonia County Alojz Tomašević, director of the Croatian Mine Action Centre, Dražen Jakopec and director of the company MINA PLUS d.o.o. Velika Mlaka, Miroslav Kapčić signed the agreement on demining of agricultural land in Požega-Slavonija County, which is funded by grant support from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) in the amount of 85% of its total value.
With the implementation of this contract which is worth 22.084.322,49 HRK, 3.73 square kilometers of agricultural land in the area of this county will be demined.
The Paying Agency for Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development released today a second decision on the allocation of funds for sub-measure 5.2 „Support for the reconstruction of agricultural land and production potential compromised by natural disasters, adverse climatic conditions and catastrophic events, for the operation 5.2.2. „Demining of agricultural land“.
After contract for demining was signed on September 1st, and Paying Agency for Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development decided to allocate the funds to Karlovac County, preconditions were met for the beginning of demining of agricultural land in the County area.
Work introduction by contractor company COR Ltd Požega and partners was carried out in the Sabljaka Modruških area in Josipdol municipality, according to the Project "Agricultural areas in the Karlovac County“ measuring 3.75 square kilometers in size, and should be commenced within 120 working days.
