Today Sunday 23 July CMAC experts (EOD team) cleared two 2 MK82 aircraft bombs in Kroch Seuch village, Deum Reus commune, Kandal Steung district, Kandal province. Those bombs are at the depth of 6 meters. CMAC experts have safely neutralized and transported to CMAC's safe area for further actions!! We wish to advise all villagers who lives in this commune to be precautioned when used their land for purpose of heavy constructions, digging ponds or water irrigation developments.... .... as this is a bombardment affected area!!

19 June 2017 - CMAC experts cleared a small hidden stockpile with 1,800 rocket launchers namely 81mm, 82mm, 60mm and B40 and it locates at Prekreusey village, Takoav town, Kandal province. This stockpile maybe try to mobilize their munitions closed to their target ranges to serve their fights in 5-6 July 1997! This discovered pile at building foundations, this means that they are living with these rocket launchers in their house for years!

As part of the South-South Cooperation Exchange Program (Phase II Stage II) and with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), a group of six participants from UXO Lao have arrived to start a program of onthe-job training in operational management with their CMAC counterparts.
They will spend eleven days in Cambodia from 6-17 June 2016 under CMAC coordination.

The opening ceremony for the Angola-Cambodia Training Program in Mine Action Management was held at CMAC Headquarters in Phnom Penh on 21 March 2016. This mine action management training is supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and is the second phase of South-South Cooperation between Cambodia and Angola in the Mine Action Sector.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation of the Kingdom of Cambodia welcomes the derision of the Government of People's Republic. of China to discharge water from Jinnghong Hydropower Station in Yunnan Province to downstream Mekong River for emergency use from 15 March to 10 April 2016 as announced by the Spokesman of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 15 March 2015.

On January 12th, the Government of Australia has agreed to provide 9 million Australian dollars to support Clearing for Results Project Phase III from 2016-2019. The grant agreement was signed by H.E Alison Burrows, Ambassador of Australia to the Kingdom of Cambodia and Mr. Napoleon Navarro, Senior Policy Advisor for UNDP witnessed by H.E. Prak Sokhonn Minister of Posts and Telecommunications and First Vice President of the CMAA.

On January 15th, 2016, the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) supported by the Clearing for Results Project of UNDP organized a launch of the development of National Mine Action Strategy (NMAS) 2017-2025. The event was presided over by H.E. Prum Sophakmonkol, Secretary General of the CMAA and participated by stakeholders such as line ministries, development partners, mine action operators and relevant non-governmental organizations.

Background

In over 23 years of mine action work, serving the nation and people, CMAC has succeeded in achieving great progress in demining operations. By October, 2015, CMAC had cleared more than 70,000 hectares of minefields, finding and destroying more than 2.5 millions mines and UXOs. Thus, reducing casualty rates drops from 1,153 persons in 1999 to 68 persons in 2015. The cleared lands were handed over to the beneficiaries to produce crop yield, build houses and infrastructures for socio-economic development.

08 Dec 2015 description

A bomb known as U.S. MK82 was found in a rice field by villagers during their dry-season rice cultivation at Prek Cha Village, Sambour Commune, Lovea Aim District, Kandal Province. After being informed by local authorities and the villagers, a CMAC EOD team, on 03 December 2015, conducted a removal operation of the bomb which had been dropped by U.S aircraft during the civil war between 1970 and 1975. The villagers living in the bombed area said it might have lain underground in the field for more than 40 years.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Food purchasing power of households in rural areas increased by 1% but in urban areas decreased by 0.9% month-on-month;

  • Retail price of lowest quality rice in rural and urban areas increased by 0.7% and 0.2% respectively on a month-on-month basis;

  • Wholesale price of mixed rice increased by 9.2% month-on-month but was 0.8% lower year-on-year;

  • In April, inflation rate was 1.3% and overall food prices increased by 4.4% year-on-year;
