On 07 and 18 May, 2012 an earthquake struck Gakh, Zagatala, Sheki and Balakan districts of Azerbaijan Republic. As a result of the earthquake many constructions and private houses were damaged. In accordance with its mission and mandate the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society considered it necessary to provide relevant humanitarian assistance to people affected by the earthquake. For this purpose the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society conducted an assessment in Zagatala and Gakh districts.
Dr. Novruz Aslanov, president of Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society, deputy of parliament visited Zagatala region of Azerbaijan (North-West) on the 21st of May with the aim of rendering humanitarian aid to the victims. Experts of disaster preparedness and disaster response department of AzRCS participated in that visit too. During the visit Novruz Aslanov, president of AZRCS held a meeting with Mubariz Ahmadzadeh, head of Local Executive Authorities of Zagatala district and visited the families affected by the earthquake.
On 13 May, 2010 a delegation of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society visited Zardab district, Hajikend settlement of Goygol district to organize a delivery of humanitarian assistance to people affected by flood occurred as a result of an increase of the level of water in Kur river.
During the visit humanitarian assistance has been provided to people living in the affected areas. In general, humanitarian assistance in the sum of 27810, 17 AzN has been provided to 150 families in Zardab district, Hajikend settlement of Goygol district.
