Mbuji-Mayi, 6 December 2011 - A conference-debate organized on 5 December by the United Nations Joint Human Rights Office (UNJHRO) in Mbuji-Mayi, capital of Kasai Oriental, sought to inject new vigor into the fight against gender-based violence in the region. As part of the discussions of the global “16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence” campaign, the panel brought together political actors, civil society activists and judicial authorities from across the province to engage them in educating the local population about the consequences of gender-related acts of violence.

La Commission Electorale Nationale Indépendante (CENI) a organisé, avec l’appui de la MONUSCO, du projet PNUD-PACE et d’autres partenaires, les scrutins combinés présidentiel et législatif national, le lundi 28 novembre 2011, sur l’ensemble du territoire national. Selon le Président de la CENI, sur les 63.865 bureaux de vote et de dépouillement, seuls 485 ont connu des problèmes soit 0,76%. Ces problèmes varient de l’arrivée tardive ou l’insuffisance du matériel électoral aux attaques des bureaux de vote.

Kinshasa, 19 November 2011 - A National Mediation Commission tasked to resolve election-related conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was inaugurated on Friday 18 November 2011, under the joint chairmanship of the Independent Election Commission (CENI) and the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO).

The ceremony took place at the seat of CENI and was attended by Ambassadors of the permanent member countries of the United Nations Security Council, representatives of the European Union and the African Union.

Kinshasa, 08 November 2011: The United Nations Organisation Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) is deeply concerned by the rising spate of pre-electoral violence in many parts of the country and incitement to violence by political leaders that has marred the presidential and legislative elections campaigns since 28 October.

MONUSCO expresses its concern regarding the language employed by political leaders inciting electoral related violence. This constitutes direct violations of Congolese electoral law and international electoral standards.
