SINGAPORE, 1 October 2018 - Mercy Relief, Singapore's homegrown humanitarian non-governmental organisation (NGO), will be sending its disaster response team to Palu, Central Sulawesi, where aftershocks from a 7.4-magnitude earthquake had triggered a tsunami with 3m-high waves on 28 September. The team is travelling tomorrow morning to provide the first phase of emergency relief distribution. Immediate needs of the communities include shelter kits, solar light, medical service, water and food items.

SINGAPORE, 19 August 2018​– Mercy Relief, Singapore’s leading independent disaster relief agency, will be deploying a disaster response team to the Indian state of Kerala where heavy rains have caused some of the region’s worst flooding in nearly a century. According to Kerala’s chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, at least 300 people have died as a result of the monsoon floods in the past two weeks.

SINGAPORE, 25 January – MERCY Relief, Singapore’s leading independent disaster relief agency, is continuing with relief distribution operations with ground partners in Albay, Bicol, Philippines (Luzon island). Our ground partner has confirmed that Mount Mayon has erupted. The number of evacuees has increased to approximately 60,000 overnight. Even with 66 evacuation centres, there is still overcrowding due to the influx of evacuees. There are reports of limited food supplies and hygiene items.

SINGAPORE, 10 December 2015 – SINGAPOREAN humanitarian non-governmental organisation (NGO) Mercy Relief has initiated its first distribution of relief supplies, which will benefit 300 low income families in the flood-hit city of Chennai, India.

As part of the ongoing disaster relief efforts for the South India monsoon floods, Mercy Relief’s initial distribution of S$10,000 worth of relief supplies will be carried out at the NGO’s first Relief Distribution Operations (RDO) in Kulathumedu, an urban slum district in Chennai, on 12th December 2015.

12 August 2015 – Singaporean-born humanitarian NGO Mercy Relief, working together with its ground partner, Myanmar Heart Development Organization (MHDO) distributed more than 10 tonnes of food supply to 350 affected households in Kyawtaw Township, Rakhine State in Myanmar. Each household received a family food pack which include rice, cooking oil, canned fish, salt and noodles. This food pack will be able to feed a family of 6 for a period of two weeks.

9 August 2015 – The continuous rise in flood levels increasingly threatens long-term food security and its supply in certain states of Myanmar. In these areas, acres of crops, some of which can only be harvested annually, have already been destroyed by flood waters. These remote communities also face the possibility of further isolation by rising waters, making them inaccessible and hampering the delivery of aid.

5 May – Singapore NGO Mercy Relief’s stages operations in four remote areas in Nepal that have not received aid from other agencies. These remote mountainous areas of Nepal suffered the worst devastation from the quake that have claimed 7,365 lives and injured 18,261 people.

Amid fresh aftershocks and logistical constraints, Mercy Relief’s team continue to deliver medical and food aid as well as temporary shelter to outlying areas indicated in their earlier assessment of the ground situation.

30 April 2015 - Mercy Relief deploys a medical team to Nepal in support of relief efforts on Friday 1 May 2015. The team of four doctors will be joining Mercy Relief’s first response team already in Kathmandu, to attend to the immediate needs of the victims and and to assess the other needs on the ground for the missions to follow. Leading the team of doctors is Mercy Relief’s second response personnel.

11 August 2014, China - Singaporean humanitarian NGO, Mercy Relief has disbursed an initial tranche of aid worth $30,000 to some 2,500 people affected by the 6.1 magnitude earthquake which hit Yunnan Province, China on 3rd August. Despite logistical constraints due to damaged road infrastructure, the response and assessment team managed to reach quake hit areas of Ludian County to distribute food packs, medicines and blankets.

Singapore, 4 August 2014 – Singaporean humanitarian NGO, Mercy Relief has begun its first phase of emergency response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza by disbursing SGD$250,000 worth of aid.

Mercy Relief has been monitoring the situation since the armed conflict started on 8 July 2014 and has been in close and constant liaison with its ground partners - the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and the Palestinian Wefaq Association (PWA). Both organisations have underscored that food and medical supplies are the immediate needs on the ground for the displaced people in Gaza.

Philippines, 11 December – One month has passed since super Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines, and millions of people, particularly those living in rural and isolated areas, are recovering slowly. Having successfully procured and distributed basic survival essentials including water, food and hygiene kits for the past weeks, Singaporean humanitarian organisation Mercy Relief (MR) is now also addressing the early recovery and rehabilitation of the affected communities across the typhoon-stricken islands.
