Kabul, Afghanistan, 25 August 2014 – In the first of their decision-making sessions, Independent Election Commission (IEC) members have made decisions on the status of ballots cast at 3,645 polling stations from across the country.
In the presence of candidate agents, national and international observers, United Nations advisors and media, Commissioners reviewed evidence collected during the audit process, at the National Tally Center today.
Kabul, Afghanistan, 20 August 2014 – The Independent Election Commission (IEC) of Afghanistan and both Presidential campaigns deplore the acts of violence occurring between agents of the Reform and Partnership campaign and daily wage workers at the IEC premises, yesterday evening.
Following an apparent interpersonal dispute, which gave rise to violence, IEC Commissioners met with senior representatives of both Presidential candidates and the United Nations Assistance Mission to Afghanistan (UNAMA).
Kabul, Afghanistan, 7 July 2014 – According to Article 14.14 of the Structural Law of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC), which authorizes the IEC to announce preliminary and final results; and also based on provisions of Article 4.20 of the Electoral Law, the IEC has officially announced the preliminary results of the 2014 run-off Presidential Election.
Kabul, Afghanistan, 14 June 2014 – In spite of serious security threats, voters were not deterred from casting their ballots in the Presidential Election run-off, held in Afghanistan today. While final figures are yet to be ascertained, preliminary indicators suggest a turnout of more than 7 million voters.
Based on positive trends observed in the first round Presidential Election on 5 April, additional polling stations were allocated to polling centers across the country; and a 5% voting material contingency kept in reserve at provincial offices.
After the certification and announcement of the final results of the 2009 presidential election the Independent Election Commission (IEC) has hastened its preparations for holding the second round of the Presidential Election on 7 November 2009. According to the preplanned work schedule, the IEC will commence distribution of essential materials from Saturday, 24th of October.

Today the ECC and IEC began the audit and recount process that was mandated by ECC's order of 08 September 2009. The order stipulates that polling stations for the Presidential Election that meet the following criteria are to be subject to an audit and recount:
- The total number of votes in a polling station is 600 or more; and
- One Presidential candidate received 95 percent or more of the total valid votes cast in a polling station (if the total number of votes cast exceeds 100).

The Independent Election Commission after announcement of partial and preliminary result of presidential election, today Saturday announces the preliminary results of 30 provinces of provincial council election from (18416) polling centers entered in the system.
The Independent Election Commission has successfully completed retrieval of all sensitive and non-sensitive electoral materials from across the country to its Provincial Offices including the Tamper Evident Bags to the National Tally Center in Kabul.
Retrieval of the polling material from the polling centers to the provincial offices of IEC and from the provincial offices to the National Tally Center located at the IEC HQ is completed successfully.
Retrieval of polling materials from polling centres is proceeding according to plan and in accordance with procedures. More than 95% of polling materials have now arrived at IEC provincial electoral offices and out of that 85% of the tamper evident bags has been delivered to the National Tally Center.
