On 7 February 2017, the UN Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD) resumed its operations from Kathmandu, Nepal.

After strong earthquakes damaged the UNRCPD office premises in Nepal, and in order to ensure the continuity of its planned programmes and services to the countries in Asia and the Pacific, the Regional Centre was temporarily relocated to Bangkok in May 2015.

Guide to the user

The United Nations Disarmament Yearbook, in print and electronic format, is designed to be a concise reference tool for diplomats, researchers, students and the general public on disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control issues under consideration by the international community.

Part I of the 2015 Yearbook was published in April this year. It contains all the resolutions and decisions of the seventieth session of the General Assembly.

On 12 October 2015, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) published the study on armed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The study was prepared by UNODA pursuant to the recommendation of the Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters in its report A/69/208 following its 2014 sessions, with assistance by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) and the Human Rights Institute at the Columbia University School of Law.

In January 2015, UNREC carried out a four-day training course on combatting illicit arms trafficking for the staff of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), in cooperation with the Integrated Mission Training Centre and other United Nations partners. The purpose of the course was to enhance the capacities of MINUSMA peacekeepers to combat the illicit trafficking in small arms and light weapons in Mali.

The United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD) is assisting Nepal’s Ministry of Education to build the capacity of curriculum developers and textbook writers to integrate peace and disarmament education into Nepal’s school curricular materials. Launched in 2013 in post-conflict Nepal, this project reinforces efforts to cement peace at the national level by helping children and teachers understand and adopt non-violent ways of dealing with conflict, and ultimately change their behavior.

NEW YORK, 17 November (Office for Disarmament Affairs) — A regional legal assistance workshop on the Arms Trade Treaty will take place in Siem Reap, Cambodia, 18–19 November 2014. Legal experts from 16 States from the Asia-Pacific region as well as representatives from the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), academia and the United Nations will work on facilitating national ratification of the Treaty or accession to it.
