About 2,160 doses of vaccine were delivered to South Sudan and stored in the ultra-cold freezer at -800 C.

Following the declaration of EVD outbreak in North Kivu and Ituri provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the threat of cross-border spread, South Sudan has therefore been categorized as a priority 1 country alongside other countries like Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi to enhance preparedness and operational readiness based on the proximity to the outbreak area as well as the capacity to manage EVD outbreaks.
A suspected Ebola case was reported in Renk (Abayok PHCC) on 03/12/2018 and investigated by the RRT. The sample was negative for EVD.
Similarly, a specimen collected from Yambio hospital on 04/12/2018 tested negative for EVD.

On the 23 November 2018, the State Ministry of Health was notified of a suspected case of Ebola at the Sekure Payam, Nzara County. The suspect is a 25 years old farmer, who resides at “Hai Network” but travelled to Bangadi in the Democratic Republic of Congo on the 16 November 2018. He felt unwell on the 18 November 2018 with complains of fever, joint pain, vomiting of blood and diarrhoea.
GenXpert laboratory results for the suspected EVD case in Yambio were negative for Ebola Zaire; follow-up polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing was negative for all Ebola species, Marburg,
Rift Valley Fever, Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever, and Sosuga viruses. Further testing of the sample at Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) using Taqman Array Card (TAC) platform and YF-specific PCR assay confirmed that the sample was PCR positive for Yellow Fever Virus.
In June this year, leaders from the Executive branch of the Government and relevant line Ministries including State Governors, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organizations and the United Nations under the leadership of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, made a collective commitment and pledge to eliminate child marriage at the launch of the costed Strategic National Action Plan (2017-2030) to End Child Marriage in South Sudan.
The GenXpert laboratory result for the Yambio suspected Ebola Virus Disease case was negative for Ebola virus. The confirmatory result of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) results from Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) is also tested negative for Ebola,
Marburg, CCHF and RVF.
Juba 1 November 2018 – The World Health Organization is supporting the Ministry of Health of South Sudan, to train a total of 214 members of the Rapid Response Teams at the national level and in all the Ebola virus disease (EVD) high-risk states.

What is Ebola Virus Disease?
- Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) is a severe illness caused by Ebola virus and often fatal in humans and animals (monkeys, gorillas and chimpanzee).
The WHO Regional Director for Africa Dr Matshidiso Moeti, will be in South Sudan on a 4-day official visit from 20 -23 October 2018.
During her visit, Dr Moeti will hold discussions with Minister of Health, His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit - President of South Sudan, high-ranking government officials and other stakeholders on matters related to the country’s health agenda.

The Republic of South Sudan is the newest country of the world, with a total estimated population of 11,296,000 and 406,000 annual births. Despite facing many challenges, it is a growing country committed to improving the living conditions of their population.
Maternal and child malnutrition is a significant public health problem in South Sudan. Among children aged 6-59 months, 31% are stunted, 28% are underweight, and nearly 23% are acutely malnourished of which 13% are estimated to suffer from moderate acute malnutrition and 10% from severe acute malnutrition.

• Rift Valley Fever outbreak - Yirol East with 55 suspect human cases including 6 confirmed; 3 probable; 26 noncases; and 20 pending classification (with no samples collected). Nine confirmed animal cases (cattle).
