Todos ellos afrontan riesgos diferentes y por lo tanto han sido afectados y victimizados de manera distinta.

LEVEL III: Changes in the behavior of volcanic activity

On Thursday, 17 January, INGEOMINAS registered an explosive eruption by the Galeras volcano at 20:06. The alert level was raised from Level III to Level I: Imminent or on-going eruption, a situation never before witnessed.

NIVEL I: ERUPCIÓN INMINENTE O EN CURSO.

Este jueves 17 de enero se presentó a las 08:06 p.m. una erupción de carácter explosivo, del Volcán Galeras. Este evento fue registrado por INGEOMINAS, por lo que se cambio el nivel III a nivel I de actividad volcánica.

A día 18 de enero se mantiene el Nivel I, reportando: Sismicidad normal con fluido; solidificación grietas y aumento de la temperatura interna. No hay síntomas de estabilidad".

IMPACTO

Se presentó pánico en la población de Pasto por la explosión y los 5 sismos que se presentaron en la noche del jueves 17 de enero.

LEVEL I: IMMINENT OR ON-GOING ERUPTION

Yesterday, January 17th, 2008, at 20:06, an explosive eruption occurred by the Galeras Volcano. This event was registered by INGEOMINAS, for which reason it raised the level of volcanic activity from Level III to Level I.

As of January 18th, 2008, Level I is maintained, reporting: "Normal seismicity with fluid; solidification of vents and increase of internal temperature. There are no symptoms of stability".

IMPACT

Panic occurred among the inhabitants of Pasto due to the explosion and 5 seismic events which occurred last night.

Inda Sabaleta Indigenous Reservation, Awá Indigenous Community, Tumaco

Humanitarian Context

On September 18, a mass displacement took place in the Awá indigenous reservation, Inda Sabaleta, due to sustained armed confrontations between the Army and illegal armed actors. Through 24 September, the displacement reached a total of 1,080 people.

A new census undertaken by Acción Social on October 8, counted 871 IDPs and 176 who had to return to their homes due to the difficult conditions of IDPs on the temporary shelters established for the emergency.
