Clarification Message to the Press

Recently there has been news in the media relating to the closure of business of WHO Pakistan in Balochistan following the recent two attacks against the polio workers. WHO would like to categorically dispel the notion of closing down or with-drawing its operations in Balochistan or anywhere else in Pakistan, and would like to firmly clarify what was decided:

(Islamabad, 21 March 2014): The United Nations says that more funds are urgently required to scale up support for nutrition interventions, including sustainable development solutions, to tackle the nutrition crisis in the drought-affected Tharparkar region. Overall, UNICEF, WFP, WHO and FAO and their partners, including HANDS, Merlin and Muslim Hands, are seeking $11.67 million to scale up nutrition and other support to over 1.3 million people for a year in Tharparkar and surrounding districts.

World Water Day (22 March) highlights the urgency for governments, organisations and individuals around the world to preserve water resources, prevent wastage, use safe and less water-intensive products to enhance health and food security, says the United Nations.

The global day’s theme, ‘Water and Food Security’, establishes links between use of water resources for food production, use of unsafe water and its direct impacts on the health and nutrition of women and children, especially those living in rural and urban slums.
