On Sep 28, 2018, a 7.4 Richter scale devastated Palu, Central Sulawesi, which induced tsunami as high as 6 meters (20 feet) in Palu and surrounding area. The physical geography of Palu creates a disadvantage as the waves were funneled into the bay without no way out but over-flow inland.
Adding to the problem, the tsunami buoys did not function to gave warnings to the residents. Chaos took place after several waves pounded the coastline from Donggala to Palu, destroyed and damaged 65,733 houses , killing 1,234 people (as of Oct 3, 2018).

On the Aug 19, 2018 , the day the world remembers as World Humanitarian Day, series of 7.0 and 6.5 Richter scale hit Lombok, including many 5.0 Richter scales.

Panic, fear, confusion looks over the island, and especially the hospital in Mataram, Lombok. Patients from ICU ward were evacuated to tents, including 2 big tents HOPE worldwide provided to support the hospital.

Relief team went to calm down the patients and comfort them. As hundreds of patients were still being cared for after the July 29th and Aug 5th deadly earthquakes.

Earthquakes on July 29th, Aug 5th, Aug 9th destroyed houses and killed lives in Lombok Island, Indonesia

436 have been reported dead, while 1,353 injured. 352,793 residents displaced as 67,875 houses destroyed/damaged. 468 schools were also reported destroyed/damaged.

HOPE worldwide relief team rushed to the site within 24 hours of the first earthquake, and has been providing assistance. 5 tons (11,000lbs) of supplies has been delivered by C-130 airplanes as well as other logistic avenues. So far, we are providing:

  • 410 emergency shelters

After a 6.4 earthquake on July 29 and 7.0 Richter on Aug 5th, another dedly 6.2 earthquake hammered Lombok.

Buildings that survived previous shakes we're seen collapsed in Lombok, affecting more people, and larger areas.

HOPE worldwide team has been on the ground since July 30th, 2018, providing emergency shelters, blankets, sarong, hygiene kits.

259 reported dead, while 1,033 injured and 270,000 people displaced from their homes.

We are also supporting life-saving health services and psychosocial well-being of children and families.

Aug 5, 2018

After July 29, 2018 earthquake measured at 6.4 Richter scale; a bigger 7.0 Richter scale rocked the island on Aug 5th, exactly 7 days later.

So far, 82 people reported dead at latenight as relief teams rushed to help. This stronger and devastating impact are feared to kill more and affect larger areas.

In the early morning of Sunday July 29th, 2018, a 6.4 Richter Scale Earthquake rocked northern part of Lombok Island, Indonesia.

16 persons reported dead so far, while 162 injured, and at least 1,000 houses damaged/destroyed

Mount Rinjani climbers are reported to be stuck in the slopes. Reports varies from 500 to 700 of the climbers stuck with high risks of aftershocks.

HOPE worldwide Indonesia's disaster relief team is rushing to the island to bring emergency tents for the affected families .

The Fuego Volcano, located about 25 miles Southwest of Guatemala City, erupted on June 3rd, 2018.

The official toll is 110 killed and over 200 missing. At least 3,800 are in temporary shelters.

Several emergency shelters have been opened in Escuintla. Local HOPE worldwide volunteers and staff delivered medicines and emergency prepositioned supplies from the HOPE worldwide Guatemala City Clinic to Escuintla the evening of June 4 and plan to provide additional medications and supplies in the coming days. HOPE worldwide has also provided emergency financial relief.

Fuego Volcano Erupted again, causing more Evacuation

The Fuego Volcano, located about 25 miles Southwest of Guatemala City, erupted on June 3rd, 2018. On June 4th, the Volcano erupted again, sending pyroclastic flow and caused more evacuations of already strained community.

At least 69 people have been confirmed killed and hundreds injured. Rescue Efforts continue in the immediate area.

La Aurora airport in Guatemala City was closed due to ash in the hours after the eruption but has now re-opened.

The Fuego Volcano, located about 25 miles Southwest of Guatemala City, has just erupted on June 3rd, 2018.

7 persons have been reported dead while 3,000 has evacuated from their homes to higher ground.

The main airport has also been closed as the volcanic ashes distrubs the air space.

President Jimmy Morales has ordered emergency response see efforts.

The head of the National Disaster Prevention Authority Sergio Cabañas also informed in local radio that lava flow has changed its direction and may be endangering a small town.

On October 18, 2015, Typhoon Koppu (locally called Lando) damaged the Philippines, bringing up to 40 inches of rain as it hovered through the northern Luzon Island slowly for almost three days. Luckily, the typhoon slowed down its estimated 215 mph wind before making the landfall.

So far, what the government has announced is 18 persons were killed, and 16 were injured. 4,919 houses has been damaged, while 560,570 persons affected; about 25% in evacuation centers. (source: NDRRMC as of October 20th, 2015). Power outage took place in 9 cities and 68 municipalities.

At about 11 am on Sunday, April 25, 2015, a massive earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale shook the country of Nepal. According to the National Emergency Operation Center, 8,019 persons have died and 366 are still missing from the disaster that also injured 17,866 persons (May 10, 2015). It has also been reported that more than 10% of the country’s homes were destroyed (299,588) or damaged (269,107). The nation was devastated as buildings collapsed and lives were lost in the rubble.

9 days since the deadly earthquake in Nepal, HOPE worldwide is aiming to serve 20,000 persons through various services and 20 tonnes of supplies. through local affiliate of HOPE worldwide Nepal, we are working closely with local government and international community organized by United Nations.

As of today, services provided are:
- 12,000 blankets
- 1,000 emergency shelter (tarpaulines)
- 5000 kg of food and water
- 100 kgs of medicines
- 1 camp for displaced families in Balaju, Kathmandu
- 1 emergency school in Balaju, Kathmandu

Situation Report #1 , April 26, 2015 – HOPE worldwide

A 7.9 Earthquake at a shallow 11km depth brought calamities to the 6 million people living in the populated Nepal. The earthquake also impacted parts of nearby China and India, however Nepal sustain the most damage. As of today, many reported up to 2,500 people died while news from remote villages are yet to be heard as access and communications have been cut off.

Feb 11th 2015 – HOPE worldwide Indonesia

Torrential rain kept pouring Jakarta since Sunday night of Feb 8th, 2015. Soon enough, streets were reported flooded as well houses. Rivers, canals, polders and the drainage system could not hold such heavy drop of water. Adding to the problem is the unfinished construction works of canals reconstructions, high sea level, and poor coordination of the water pumps spread out throughout the city of 12 million people.

Situation report 1, Jakarta flood. 10feb, 2015

Continous rain has been pouring the city of Jakarta, Indonesia's capital in the past 2 days. with combination of high sea level and unfinished river levies projects, water easily flood the capital of 12 millions. central , north, east, and west jakarta are flooded.

In many areas, flood is the worst ever. the rain is still pouring, while high sea level prevents water from clraring out to the sea.

Disaster Response Operations –Typhoon Hagupit HOPE worldwide Philippines Update # 1 as of December 6, 2014

Here's the update as of 6:30pm, December 6, 2014 Manila time

  • Established four teams in four different regions

  • Tapped 9 volunteers that rendered 72 volunteer hours

  • We had set-up water filters in 4 big evacuation centers as suggested by the DRRMO head in Aklan, Daanbantayan and Legazpi.

Typhoon Rammasun (Glenda) battered the Philippines, killing 38 and affected over a million people

Legazpi City, July 17, 2014. Typhoon Rammasun entered the Philippines on July 14th, 2014 with estimated wind speed of 130 km per hour. The typhoon came through one of the highest typhoon risk area, Albay Province, just north of Tacloban in Leyte; where Typhoon Haiyan wrecked the region in November 2013.
