Après le tremblement de terre dévastateur qui a frappé Haïti, les membres du Club de Paris expriment leur profonde compassion à l'égard du peuple haïtien. Ils rappellent qu'ils se sont engagés le 8 juillet 2009 à annuler la totalité de leurs créances sur Haïti, d'un montant de 214 millions de dollars à cette date, à la suite de l'atteinte par Haïti du Point d'achèvement de l'initiative PPTE. Les accords bilatéraux mettant en œuvre juridiquement cet engagement ont d'ores et déjà été conclus ou sont sur le point de l'être.

After the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti, Paris Club members want to express their deepest sympathy to the people of Haiti. They recall that on 8 July 2009, following Haiti's reaching its completion point under the HIPC initiative they committed to cancel all their claims on Haiti, which amounted at that time to USD 214 millions. Bilateral agreements to legally implement this commitment have either already been completed or are currently being finalized.

The representatives of the Paris Club creditor countries and of the Central African Republic agreed on 15 September 2009 on a reduction of the debt following Central African Republic's having reached its Completion Point under the enhanced initiative for the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (enhanced HIPC Initiative) on 30 June 2009.

As a contribution to restoring the Central African Republic's debt sustainability, Paris Club creditors decided to cancel US$ 49.2 million, which represents the Paris Club's share of the effort in the framework of the enhanced HIPC initiative.

  1. The representatives of the Paris Club creditor countries met on May 10, 2005 and agreed to recommend to their governments a cancellation of Rwanda's stock of debt.

    The representatives of the creditor countries took note that Rwanda had reached its Completion Point under the enhanced Initiative for the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (Enhanced HIPC Initiative) on April 13, 2005. They welcomed Rwanda's determination to implement a comprehensive poverty reduction strategy and an ambitious economic programme providing the basis for sustainable economic growth.

Following their meeting on January 12, 2005 where Paris Club Creditors announced that, considering the devastating effects of the tsunami and in order to allow those countries to dedicate all resources to address humanitarian and reconstruction needs, they were not expecting any debt payment from tsunami affected countries until the IMF and the World Bank have made a full assessment of the needs, Paris Club Creditors further discussed the situation of those countries on March 9, 2005.
