Brunei Darussalam is joining the ASEAN Emergency Rapid Assessment Team, ERAT, to assist Myanmar in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis. ERAT is jointly coordinated by the ASEAN Committee and the Government of Myanmar.

The funds are the Foundation Initiative Fund and the National Tsunami Disaster Victims Aid Fund under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Nearly 380 thousand dollars ($379,028.50) was raised for the Earthquake Humanitarian Fund of Yogyakarta and its surrounding areas during the period of three months. The fund was set up on the first of June and ended on the 31st last month.
The Pakistan Earthquake Humanitarian Fund and the Katrina Hurricane Relief Fund have collected more than 570 thousand dollars. Its Director Pengiran Yasmin bin Pengiran Haji Mohammad said the money is to cover the cost of fuel of RBA's aircraft to transport contributions from people in this country to the affected areas.
The foundation also received a sum of 3 thousand 500 dollars from the Women's Institute.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports said financial aid and rebuilding of schools and homes for the survivors of the tsunami disaster in Aceh are badly needed at the moment. Awang Jemat Ampal, who returned from Medan last Saturday, spoke to RTB and said that financial aid is more appropriate because it can be used to purchase all the necessities they required at a cheaper price, including stationary and books for children.
The money could also be used in the reconstruction of schools and houses.
Brunei Darussalam's efforts to provide humanitarian relief assistance to Tsunami victims in Indonesia's northern city of Banda Aceh is gathering pace with the expected departure Wednesday of a team to help in the relief work.
At a meeting Monday morning, the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Pehin Major General Dato Awang Haji Halbi said the team will be made up of personnel of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation and medical professionals comprising doctors, nurses, health personnel and other volunteers.
