Hurricane Katrina came ashore Monday bringing winds of more than 140 mph and rainfall causing widespread flooding, extensive damage, and even death.
Over 2 million have been left homeless and displaced - losing everything, including family members.
As hurricanes have battered Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina, clean up is underway. Lives were lost and property damage is in the billions. It will take time to restore and rebuild as supplies and materials are reaching the victims on a daily basis.
However before those storms hit the southern states, they left their devastating impact on Grenada, Jamaica, The Bahamas, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti. These people had no place to flee. No local shelters, no highways to escape to higher or dryer land.
