Bujumbura, Burundi -- The Force Commander of the United Nations Operation in Burundi (ONUB), Major General Derrick Mgwebi, outlined the withdrawal plan of the troops at ONUB weekly press conference today. This move comes as a result of the Security Council's decision to reduce ONUB's Force by 40% by the end of April 2006 as recommended by the Government of Burundi.

The withdrawal starts as early as 28 December with the departure from the capital Bujumbura of the Mozambican contingent which comprises 175 men.

Bujumbura, Burundi - The United Nations Operation in Burundi (ONUB) has lost 4 (four) soldiers of the Mozambican Contingent in a road accident.

The accident occurred on the night of Tuesday, 22 November 2005, at about 10:30 p.m. on Boulevard du Premier Novembre, in Central Bujumbura, when a United Nations vehicle carrying the Mozambican soldiers hit a lorry parked on the roadside. Four soldiers died on the spot while two others sustained injuries.
