The numbers are shocking: at least one in three women on the planet has suffered physical or sexual violence, usually at the hands of a family member or intimate partner. More than 700 million women alive today were married as children. Up to 250 million women and girls have undergone female genital mutilation.

17 January 2018, Harare - A ceremony to mark the award of US $ 502 million additional healthcare funding from the Global Fund to Zimbabwe was held in Harare today. The grants which will be implemented by the Ministry of Health and Child and Child Care (MOHCC) and UN in collaboration with Civil Society Organizations and the National AIDS Council (NAC) will support HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria programmes for the next three years. UNDP is the principal recipient of the grants.

09 November 2017, Harare - Through the Department for International Development (DFID), the UK Government is making available GBP 65.2 million (US$ 82.1 million) to improve sexual, reproductive, health, and nutrition services for women, adolescents, and children. The majority of this grant will finance health interventions implemented under the Health Development Fund while US$ 2.2 million will be for strengthening Zimbabwe’s capacity to prevent, detect and respond to disease outbreaks.

I have witnessed how communities are struggling to cope with the harsh drought induced by the worst El Niño in 35 years.

I visited, together with officials from the Office of the President and Cabinet, and the Ambassadors of Democratic Republic of Congo, Botswana, Malawi and Charge de Affaire of Angola, four hard-hit districts (Umguza, Bupi, Lupane and Binga) in Matabeleland North in mid-March 2016.
