(Baltimore, MD) Responding to the urgent needs of an estimated 65,000 people who were displaced from their homes by clashes in Syria’s northeastern city of Hasakeh, International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) is providing families sheltering in schools outside the city with food, hygiene kits and household items. IOCC is also supporting response teams helping people severely injured by shrapnel or flying debris with medical transport to hospitals in safer communities and emergency medical aid.

Baltimore, MD (IOCC) — International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) is responding to the devastation caused in the South Pacific island nation of Fiji by Tropical Cyclone Winston on February 20, 2016 with reconstruction assistance to families who have lost their homes. Houses, especially along the coast, were battered by both Category 5 cyclonic wind and tsunami-like storm surge. An estimated 40 percent of the population was affected by the cyclone and are now in need of assistance.

The decision has cut short the long journey for thousands of migrant men, women, and children fleeing their countries in search of a better life in European nations. They are now left stranded at border crossings or in foreign lands with no resources to return home. Winter weather only worsens their situation.

Greece remains the busiest entry point for new sea arrivals in the Mediterranean. Overwhelmed Greek island authorities lack the resources to continue feeding refugees as the country struggles to address the needs of its own people affected by the economic crisis now in its sixth year.

Baltimore, MD (IOCC) — International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) is responding to the urgent needs of the Ukraine conflict's most vulnerable victims with emergency food assistance for 900 children under age three living in areas directly affected by the violence in Eastern Ukraine. Nearly two years of armed conflict has driven 1.5 million Ukrainian people from their homes. UNICEF estimates that nearly 180,000 of those displaced are children. Among the most severely impacted are infants and toddlers, as well as mothers with special needs children.
