Kuala Lumpur, 19 October 2018… Wah Seong Corporation Berhad raised RM50,000 in a charity car wash held recently at its Bukit Kemuning facilities in support of MERCY Malaysia’s post-disaster recovery aid for the people in Palu.

Over 100 staff, suppliers, friends and customers across their four subsidiary companies – PMT Industries Sdn Bhd, Mackenzie Industries Sdn Bhd, Jutasama Sdn Bhd, WDG Resources Sdn Bhd – participated in the event, with around 80 cars and one excavator being washed by staff volunteers.

Sibalaya Utara, located 31 km away from Kota Palu, has been identified as the site for the Field Hospital as it is among the worst-hit areas.

Kuala Lumpur, 9 October 2018… Agensi Pengurusan Bencana Negara (NADMA) coordinated the deployment of humanitarian assistance to disaster-struck Central Sulawesi, with MERCY Malaysia tasked to facilitate the distributions of relief items upon arrival. Four Malaysian NGOs – MERCY Malaysia, Disaster Aid, Yayasan Inai and Volunteer Malaysia (formerly known as IM4U) – had been involved in this joint partnership.

Kuala Lumpur, 7 October 2018…MERCY Malaysia deployed three Emergency Medical Team (EMT) specialists to Palu today to assist in the establishment of a Field Hospital following the earthquake and tsunami that happened on 28 Sept.

As of 6 October, Indonesia’s national disaster management agency, BNPB, reports 1,649 deaths. A further 2,550 people are seriously injured, while 265 people are still missing.

Kuala Lumpur, 14 October 2018…After two weeks of mobile clinics and distributions of food and non-food items at tsunami and earthquake-struck Palu and Donggala, MERCY Malaysia has started the construction of temporary shelters and communal toilets for the affected communities. The organisation will, however, continue supporting medical services through its local partner, MER-C Indonesia, at the same time begin psychosocial services.

Kuala Lumpur, 17 OCTOBER 2017 – MERCY Malaysia continues to call for urgent action to provide relief for Rohingya refugees in Cox Bazar, Bangladesh, as the rainy seasons bring forth new challenges such as rising prices of goods and potentially fast-spreading diseases. The refugee camps, spread across 12 designated camps in the Ukhiya and Teknaf sub-districts of Cox’s Bazar, currently house almost a million refugees, with an estimated 60% comprising children, and 4% falling under children who are Unescorted or Separated from their caregivers.

Kuala Lumpur, 14th July 2017 – On 6th July 2017, a 6.5 magnitude earthquake occurred in the island of Leyte in the Philippines, causing major damages in Barangays of Ormoc City particularly upland Barangays including six upland Barangays namely Tongonan, Cabaon-an, Milagro, Lake Danao, Cabintan and Gaas. Over 700 aftershocks have been recorded (ranging from magnitude 1.5 to 5.8), including a major aftershock measuring 5.8 magnitude (previously pegged at 5.4) on the 10th of July, in the days that followed.

On 11 December 2016, for the first time in 2 years, MERCY Malaysia entered Gaza through the Rafah border crossing in Egypt to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gazan people. This mission marks the first humanitarian mission allowed to enter through the Rafah border since the border crossing was permanently closed in 2014.
