Acting UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Pernille Kardel today visited Tripoli, in north Lebanon. She met with political and religious authorities and visited MARCH, a non-government organization that is active in promoting reconciliation and empowerment among youth and former fighters.
Today, the Acting United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Ms. Pernille Dahler Kardel and the Director of UNRWA Affairs in Lebanon, Mr. Claudio Cordone, visited the Palestine refugee camp of Rashidieh in southern Lebanon.
Ms. Kardel and Mr. Cordone met with representatives of Palestinian factions and Popular Committees of Rashidieh and discussed with them the situation in the camp on the political, social and economic situation in the camp.

Yesterday, the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Ms. Sigrid Kaag and the Director of UNRWA in Lebanon, Mr. Claudio Cordone, visited the Palestine refugee camp of Ein El Hilweh. They met with representatives and residents of the camp, including women and youth groups, and visited UNRWA installations and other areas in the Camp.
UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Sigrid Kaag and Deputy Special Coordinator, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Philippe Lazzarini held today a dialogue with the Beirut-based media on the UN’s role and priorities in Lebanon. Focus was on the UN’s “whole of Lebanon approach” that takes into consideration support for Lebanon’s peace and security, stability and stabilization.
At the end of May 2017, committed resources to Lebanon amount to USD 1.41 billion, which includes USD 1.10 billion in donor assistance and USD 309.6 million carried over from 2016 by partners and pooled funds, as shown by the latest funding update released by the Office of the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon Philippe Lazzarini. For 2018 and beyond, donors have so far committed USD 350 million in support of Lebanon.
The Minister of State for Displaced Affairs, His Excellency Mueen Merhebi, the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Ms. Sigrid Kaag, the Director of UNRWA Affairs in Lebanon, Mr. Claudio Cordone, and Mr. Abdelnasser al-Ayyi of the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee visited today Nahr el-Bared camp (NBC).
The delegation met with representatives of the Palestinian factions and listened to youth representatives on the challenges and opportunities to improve living conditions and prospects of the camp's residents.
United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Sigrid Kaag and European Union Ambassador to Lebanon Christina Lassen visited the Regional Mine Action Center (RMAC) in Nabatieh today. The visit included a briefing by Brig. Gen. Ziad Nasr, Director of the Lebanon Mine Action Center, on progress made in the implementation of Lebanon’s National Mine Action Strategy, including in the clearing of mines, cluster munitions, unexploded ordnances and all explosive remnants of war.
The Arria-formula meeting on Women, Peace and Security and Mediation took place at the UN Security Council this week to discuss ways of increasing the participation of women in global conflict prevention and mediation and strengthening the role of women in peace processes. Co-chaired by Italy and the UK, the meeting also focused on the creation of a network of Mediterranean women mediators.

The Members of the International Support Group (ISG) reaffirm their commitment to the stability and security of Lebanon. The current political momentum has re-activated Lebanon's institutions of state.
The ISG Members encourage all parties to arrive at an early compromise, which would present an appropriate electoral framework for Lebanon. The timely conduct of peaceful and transparent parliamentary elections are an important step to preserve Lebanon’s democratic tradition, and to meet the aspirations of the Lebanese people.
International funding for Lebanon in 2016 amounted to USD 1.9 billion, as shown by the funding update released by the Office of the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon.
This amount includes a total of USD 1.57 billion disbursed by donors in 2016 and USD 344 million carried over from 2015 by UN Agencies, the World Bank and NGOs.

United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Ms. Sigrid Kaag strongly condemned the four suicide bombings that took place at dawn this morning in the north-eastern Lebanese border town of El-Qaa, and which killed five civilians and injured several others.
