During the holy month of Ramadan, the prices of essential items including— rice, chickpea (Sona), beef, onion, sugar, edible oil and fish have been increasing in kitchen markets in Maungdaw Townships, Nir Ahmed from Maungdaw said.

Suddenly, the prices of essential commodities have been skyrocketing in Maungdaw at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, Nir Ahmed added.

Mostly unofficial Rohingya refugees are facing problems and difficulties to repair their huts due to financial crisis, Rahamat Ullah from Balukhali makeshift camp said.

The huts of refugees were devastated by the heavy winds and rain (Cyclone Mora) on May 30, 2017, Rahamat added.

A woman named Sura Khatun (50), wife of Kula Meah, said that her hut was destroyed by the Cyclone Mora. She is not able to build it again for cause of money.

She also said that her husband is blind and she has no elder son to feed them and all of the family members are female.

Director general Dr. Ko Ko Naing from the ministry for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Maungdaw District Administrator U Aye Htut and officials from various departments delivered financial aid to the cyclone effected villagers in Buthidaung Township on June 2, according to local elder Kala Meah from Gwa Sone village said.

They provided financial aids for the construction of houses and buildings destroyed by Cyclone Mora that recently hit Arakan state, he more added.

Bangladeshi security forces have detained more than a dozen members of Myanmar’s persecuted Rohingya Muslim community and two men accused of attempting to smuggle them into Malaysia by boat on May 9, said the Office-in-Charge (OC), Mainuddin Khan from Teknaf police station.

The two Bangladeshis were charged with people smuggling offences after arranging the trip to Malaysia, the first time in two years would-be migrants have attempted to journey there by boat, said Teknaf police chief Mainuddin Khan.

Diarrhea, fever and stomach’s pain are affecting the Rohingya refugee children at Bangladesh-Burma border recently, Zaffar Ullah, a community health worker from the camp said.

Many unregistered Rohingya refugee children of Leda (Tal) including registered refugee children of Nayapara camp have been suffering from various diseases since the end of April 2017, Zaffar added.

According to refugees, the affected children and elders are being given basic treatment through the IOM of Leda and Ministry of Health (MOH) of Nayapara official camp.

Burmese Rohingya refugees have been facing an acute water crisis in Nayapara official and unregistered Leda (Tal) camps recently, Hussain Ahamed, a refugee from Nayapara camp said.

During the summer season, the water dam of Nayapara is almost dried up which was built by UNHCR and concerned authority earlier, he more added.

According to refugees, “We are facing from water crisis in every summer season and also getting one pot or two pots of water once from INGO supplied twice a day. But, it is not enough for us as we have over 5 to 6 family members.”

Tropical diseases such as skin diseases, chickenpox, fever, cough and vomiting have recently spread among the people in Maungdaw south, Fir Ahamed, a local villager from Maugdaw said.

“Mostly children of Kan Hpoo village, Udaung village and Aley Than Kyaw village have been suffering from various diseases in this hot season”, he added.

The health workers from the government hospital of Aley Than Kyaw village tract, were not paying attention the effected children who went to the hospital, said Refan, a father of effected child.

The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will deliver emergency humanitarian assistance to 3,200 families of Rohingyas who fled to Bangladesh since October 2016, according to the reports of United News of Bangladesh - UNB.

The distribution program will inaugurate on Monday instantly at Leda School and Darga C&B field in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar, at about 10 a m, according to a refugee leader Salim from Nayapara camp.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) intercepted 34 boats carrying at least 340 Rohingyas at border and pushed them back to Myanmar/Burma, according to BGB officials.

“They were pushed back from Fuler Dale, Jadimura and Kanjormarha points of Naf River (on the border between Bangladesh and Myanmar) to Myanmar on December 25 morning,” said Teknaf-based BGB Battalion’s Major Abu Russel Siddiqui.

The boats tried to intrude into Bangladesh, but, BGB patrols compelled them to go back to Myanmar. Each of the boat carried around 10 people,” he said.

Teknaf, Bangladesh: Bangladesh border guard (BGB) pushed back nine rowing boats along with carrying Rohingya migrant to Burma on December 8, Abdul Majid, a local from Teknaf.

10 - 15 Rohingyas including women and children per boat which had sent back to Burma, according to Lt. Col. Abu Jar Al Jahid from Teknaf BGB battalion 2.

Besides, six Rohingya were arrested from border, trying to entry Bangladesh, pushed back to Burma on December 8, according to Lt. Col. Imran Ullah Sarkar from the Cox’s Bazar BGB Battalion No. 34.

Burma border guard police (BGP) shot dead a Rohingya youth in Ngakura village on November 28 at 6:30pm while going back home from local mosque without any reason, an elderly people Habib from the locality said.

The victim was identified as---Mohamed Anas (22), son of Maulana Noor Alam of Ngakura village of Maungdaw north, he more added.

The boy was shot by two BGP personnel with a motorbike without any reason, Habib said.
